Good day all

A friend has lost the key to the wheel lock nuts and also the key code so she can not order a new key. Is there a way to remove them without drilling them out? :?:

Thanks

Where did you buy them? You might be able to go back to them and see how many key combos they have in stock or if they know how many combos are made. They might have fifty in stock, most with the same key?

thanks for the tip. She got it from the dealer as an option but this was over 5 years ago (not an Element) so it is not liely. Will keep looking. Thanks

Drilling them out will probably dame the wheels and stuid replacement can be expensive.

What you need is something to take over the function of the key. Every "locking" nut set I've seen is only locking in the sense that the key is a special wrench head.

If the nuts aren't recessed too far, you could try this:

Have a body shop grind off the plating from the flat face of the nuts, grind a horizontal groove across the center of each nut's face, and braze the center of a 5/8" steel rod 24" long to the face of the nut. The rod should provide enough leverage to use as a wrench to twist off the nuts., and the heating from the brazing operation should help.

If the rod bend before the nut breaks free, substitute a piece of 1" x1" angle iron and braze the bottom of the "V" into the groove.

If they are Honda lock nuts, take them to the dealer. We have a master set of "keys" that will be able to remove the locking lug. There are about 20 different key combos. She will need to purchase a new set of locks.

Somehow I just knew Jeff had experience with removing lock nuts too. Anything removable...
