x2.

Spam has been out of control this morning. I have said it a thousand times, but does this new forum software support a post verification feature for new posters... I am talking about for like the first 5 or 10 posts to prevent spam.

It's a never ending battle. I have Racoon helping...perhaps I can give someone else rights to delete spam as well.

When I find a spammer, I do a google search and sure enough, they hit other major sites too. These folks are getting very sophisticated!

Any other ideas?

Thanks.

thats the best one so far
or a compulsory first welcome post that gives post access to all the sections

I have to apologize, since the amount of SPAM you're noticing is due in part to my work load at the moment.

Usually I work from home, so I check the message boards through out the day whenever I have a few mintues. This week I'm on site at a client, so I can't check regularly. And I've been traveling a lot the last couple of weeks, so you may have noticed that, too.

I could also volunteer my anti-spammage skills. I have moderator experience on other forums, and I think more are needed here at HondaSUV. I'm surprised to see that this forum has only a single mod in addition to the admin. Most other forums have either several global moderators, or different mods assigned to particular sections of the board. Eases the workload on everyone involved in forum admin and spam protection.

I guess many of the members here use this forum on a daily basis, perhaps giving them moderator powers would be usefull....but the "new member verification system" seems very logical.:D

I don't know if this is the right place to mention this, but one day after posting my first mesage here I received a spam claiming to be from Honda and asking me to send info to claim a fictious 10mn prize.

I thought my email address cannot be seen on the forum :(

I have been added as an administrator and am helping Racoon and bing keep the site clean. Racoon has been traveling a lot lately and I've been very busy with spam. sleeksilver often sends out a spam warning and I see the notices at home and work.

Hit the triangle or send me a PM and spam and porn will be removed promptly.

Hmmm...I wonder if a ban from posting would ban a moderator from banning someone else?

Thanks for the notification on spam this morning, Mitch. I banned someone early this morning while at home and Racoon cleaned up more when I was actually working at work.

I am almost always logged onto hondasuv.com either at home or at work. I just keep a window open and I always see spam, I always try to report it too. I might be the #1 when it comes to that :) (I did say might!)

I think your ScanGuage is spamming you out. Did you convert your CR-V to run on vegetable oil, animal by-products or something?

The numbers don't add up.

ah, a classic situation of not RTFineM! ;)

that display on the ScanGauge is showing the "instant" MPG, not avg. mpg ;)

notice the 9TPS? it means my foot was completely off the gas :o

Hi can the admins please ban this spam user name "buddha (http://www.hondasuv.com/members/member.php?u=62123)". I received the same message from this person or bot from other forums as well. The link looks suspicious too, I wouldn't want to click it. This message goes like this:

Hi,
I'm new here, how's it going?

"Buddhism has the characteristics of what would be expected in a cosmic religion for the future: it transcends a personal God, avoids dogmas and theology; it covers both the natural & spiritual, and it is based on a religious sense aspiring from the experience of all things as a meaningful unity" - Albert Einstein
