View Full Version : Fog lights
Used my fog lights in mysty rain last night. They worked GREAT! Really helped. And the dash board had a nice indicator that the fog lights were on. [Yeah, yeah, probably in the manual... but it something that did not stick in my memory from reading  and I was pleased to see it on the dash]

After I installed mine I noticed the dash light too. Nice surprise. I have driven in dense fog one time and the fog lights sure worked good.

where is the switched housed for the fogs? I am thinking about getting a pair when I get some $$ saved up. Was the install difficult for you?

Think about how you turn on your headlights.. They just switch that one out with one that is a double...
If you do a search you will find pictures. I had asked about this same thing a while ago.

Thanks, I am afraid to have a dealer pull all that apart. I am fearful of a less than factory install as it may not have the same fit and finish that may rattle or such. I wish it wasn't so involved. I guess I am being a bit of a wuss about it but i'd hate to do anything to mess up my V :).

Any high end alternatives besides factory you'd recommend? Like a PIAA that has a higher quality switch and construction?

You don't even know what the quality of the OEM switch is, why are you already looking for alternatives?
It's okay, car modding doesn't need to be scary. It's supposed to be fun!

Just do it, you aren't going to mess anything up :? Save yourself something like $200 bucks and take your significant other out to dinner.

I had it done at the dealership. No rattles or problems. Unless the car is built to your spec, they are an add-on even on EX-L with Navi top of the line.

The only difference I notice with fog lights is the way it lights up the road fight feet in front of you (yes, I know, that's obvious). To me, the $350(?) price tag to it does not justify it's functionality. It doesn't help me see at all. Then again, I can drive anywhere at night with the least bit of lighting just fine. I'm an owl.
What I noticed on a misty day is that the headlights light the wall of fog - so the road ahead is hard to see. The fog lights light up the road near to the car and because the fog is less thick near where the car is it allows you to see the road in front of the car really well (without the fog lights that area has no/little light, so you can't see the road). It made a big difference for me on a bad day. But I have bad night vision which adds to my uncomfortableness on a misty day.
I am planning to take a picture - but to see the true difference I have to find a foggy place where it is safe to take a photo!

Couple of weeks ago, I tried in a heavy snow day (coming back after a ski trip). For me, it didn't help that much. Very slight improvement, but not even that. My head light and fog light combined wasn't as good as HID that my friend was driving which I had driven just to check it out. My perspective wasn't as good. I will check it out during rain whether that makes the difference at all.
However, it looks good on CR-V. But was it worth extra $400... it's hard to tell.

It has the 'normal' indicator for the headlight and then there is a second when the fogs are on... The dash must be blocking the headlight one. I was holding my phone up a bit to get a better view...
I was also pretty surprised with the difference in the pics. It is really noticeable... :D

I just had my fog lights installed yesterday. The only thing I don't like is that they only come on when the headlights are on. My Dodge was the same way, but I re-wired the lights so that the fogs would come on when the parking lights were on first. I liked the look of the fogs & parking lights on w/o headlights.
Any thoughts/ideas on if this can be done with the 07 V?

Fog lights nowadays are used for looks and style and not for its intended purpose, hence its name. As ajk has pointed out it is a difference maker if one is caught in a thick fog and it looks like staring on a white wall. Other than that situation, it's just a waste of energy. Just my viewpoint.

I find them very helpful in any kind of bad weather (rain for example). They add a lot of light right in front of the car, so you can see where you are going. Did you see photos taken with and without fog lights? YOu will see a huge difference, because CRVs headlights are not very strong.

I don't think it's not that huge of a difference. It only illuminates 5 feet of what's in front of you. That's why it's called fog lights and it's installed as close to the ground as possible with the purpose of using it in near or zero-visibility weather. But in a clear weather that doesn't help much. Obviously if a road hazard has been illuminated by the fog lights while the vehicle is travelling at a normal pace, it's way too late for one to react.

Some people don't like driving at night. I happen to be one. I wear contacts and I think that has something to do with it. I feel that the reg headlights are lacking something and that is what is right infront of my car. I grew up in a small town where a deer could easily jump right in front of a moving car so that may be another reason why I like them. Don't get me wrong. I am not driving around with them on 24/7. But I have experimented and it is nice being able to see what is close to me rather then only what is far ahead.

It makes a huge difference to me. But I only use them when the weather is not clear at night.
Sounds like it depends a lot on the eyesight one has - if someone has cat-like vision it probably not as helpful as it is to me.
The fogs (on) make the V look cool. For onlookers from outside that is! I'd get one without thinking twice, but the Indian models have them as standard.

I agree with you. It doesn't help that much other than the fact that it looks nicer. I wear contacts as well, so, that's not it. I also have an Acura with HID and they are a heck of a lot better than fog light. As you mentioned, sincce it illuminates only 4 to 5 feet in front of you, by the time you see it, you've already ran over it.

That's all it helps in regards to distance from what I've noticed. At least you're able to see what you just hit with greater illumination than not having fog lights. :-/

It is not like you can turn on the fog lights by themselves. You have to have on the headlights. And for being one of the people WITH THE FOG LIGHTS I see a huge difference. Is there anyone here with fog lights that feel they wasted their money? I sure don't regret it. And don't forget they are called fog lights for a reason. They make a great difference in bad weather.

Yes, it's not 4 to 5 feet. I think it's lesser. It illuminates the corners more but not what's in front. And it should be that way. Fog lights should compliment the headlights by illuminating the area where the headlights are weak at, not boost it. Otherwise it will only cause glare especially to oncoming vehicles.

I have a Canadian 2007 CR-V which are apparently all manufactured in the USA. The USA prices for accessoris are much less and I want to purchase over the border and have done much research online. However, Canaidan CR-V's come with daytime running lights. I haven't been able to get confirmation whether Honda fog lights purchased in the USA will install wtih exactly the same instructions on a Canadian CR-V. They look exactly the same. Are there any subtle differences in the wiring to account for the daytime running lights? I want to buy them in USA and install myself and found some good online videos for installation. A dealer in the USA discovered that the fog light part numbers are different in Canada versus USA but this does not confirm if the actual electronics are different. Does anyone have any experience with this?

US CR-Vs also have Daytime running lights. The wiring is exactly the same !
Go ahead and buy the fog light kit in the US. You should be paying aroung 225 for it.
The only reason the part number is different is probably to dissuade you from buying from the US at a significant discount.
Hope that answers your question.

The knob is easily accessible during the installation process.
After that, you would need to remove the bumper clips underneath the side you want to access the knob. The fit is tight for your hand so I would wear protective gloves.

Red4Ree, be aware of big customs brokerage charges on top of pst and gst when stuff is shipped in from the US via FedEx or UPS. Ask the vender if they will ship via USPS. It'll save you some cash.
