View Full Version : Noise from the front

Hi All --

I just started realizing this about a week ago, now with about 9k miles on my V...

I did the infamous "drive around in circles" test, with no vibration or noises for the rear diff. issue.

But now -- when I'm backing out of a parking space, and start turning the wheel, it's fine, but if I crank it a bit tighter (just about all the way, right or left), I'm getting a noise/slight vibration in the steering wheel. It doesn't happen when I'm driving forwards, and the circle test is still fine. But here's the weird thing...this doesn't happen all the time...

Odd, I know - but anyone have any ideas?

Have you checked the power steering fluid?

If it does this in idle, in gear with the steering wheel turned (pressure on the pump to hold it there) it is perfectly normal.

Yup -- fluid level's fine...

I'll give that a shot just turning the wheel and see what happens...

I normally back into my spot, but it wasn't until lately that I've been lazy, and I need to back out in the morning that I've noticed.

Finger's crossed. :)

So, just came back from the dealership...

Chances are, it's just that the rear diff. fluid needs to be changed -- and since this is my first 4WD, I'm not used to the different fluids that need to be added...

Out of curiosity, how easy is it to change out the diff. fluid?

It's easier and less messy than an oil change. SEARCH and you'll find out.

Just got back from the dealership -- sure enough, the rear diff. fluid was replaced under warranty. Now we'll just keep our eyes on it...

Thanks for all the help!
