I noticed that I have a pretty blue led next to the sunroof control. It is only lighted during the night. I have not figured out what it is. Anyone knows?

Its been discussed already many times, please search the forum :)

It is called ambiance lighting, mood lighting....

ambiance lighting? that did not even occur to me! I thought it was indicating that the microphone was active or something like that. thank you so much! I found the other threads, searching for "blue light" brought up too many things but "ambiance lighting" did the trick.

What I found is....when it's dark outside. The light eluminates the center console a little bit. It's kinda neat. The navi is a little bright but if you have everything in night mode the blue light shows up down there. I like it......A lot of people asked about that light. And yes the only function is looks.

My little blue light doesn't seem to illuminate anything. Even in the dark away from city lights & with my dash lights turned down as far as they go, they still shine bright enough to render my little blue light relatively useless.
Oh well...

Yeah... I don't think it illuminates anything for me either... but it sure is a pretty shade of blue :-)

It has to be pitch black to barely see it. It has no use for me that dim, but it's not needed on the CR-V IMO. However, I like it on manual cars. Good day to all.

I agree. It does a nice job to subtly illuminate the center console.

Hmmm... and here I thought that little blue light was a 'headlights on' indicator.

The "ambiance" lighting LED has been in place on the Accord EX since its remodel in 2003. Also, the newer Pilot is now using the LED downlight. In the Accords and Pilots, the LED is amber. It does a wonderful job of just providing enough light to see things in the console area in darkness. Obviously, if there is any spare daylight remaining, you don't need the light produced by the LED...

If your blue light is not very bright, turn the trip meter knob to turn the light to the desired brightness. I had to turn mine down, because I felt like I was on display as I road along in the dark.

Hi All,

When i first got my ride about 4 months ago, I was wondering what that little blue light on the ceiling of the car is for. According to the manual, it's a headlight indicator? But it's not necessary since when you turn on the headlights, there would have been an icon on the instrument panel. Well, but it does make interesting conversations when passengers notice the quirky blue light and I would just say well, the CRV comes with a state-of-the-art bluetooth voice control system.....:D

Glad I stumbled on this forum. Noticed it from a decal found on a new Honda Crossroad....oh, and i'm a super newbie here. Hi all!

I figure the blue light is for those moments you have something you need to glance at but don't want to blind yourself with the dome light... it works... and only in places where it is really dark... which makes sense. All in all, a nice addition imo.

I realised that this light just about lit up the area of the gear and on the console box between the 2 front seats. I tried putting my finger over the light and the areas I mentioned turned much darker. Helps in looking for things in the centre console w/o turing the cabin lights on I guess?

Thanks. I posted that my blue light did absolutely nothing for me and now I know why. It wasn't turned all the way up.

My new Civic has that blue light on the sunroof control too. Someone said it is something put in higher end cars up till now.....guess I have the upscale Civic!!

The manual mentioned that it should provide some interior illumination, but since I keep my dash lights dimmed quite a bit (I don't like them real bright when I am driving), I don't think the little blue light does much. But I can easily find the sunroof control at night.....and it does look cool!

That is interesting to know. i always wondered what this useless light did. I have only touched the trip indicator during the day. But why does it have the holes like if there was a speaker there? Is that were the mic is for the Models with the voice controls?

I don't think the light is useless at all.

The holes up above most likely houses a microphone on models that would require one. An example would be CR-Vs with Bluetooth in Europe...

It could be where the temperature sensor for the climate control equipped vehicles goes.

My girlfriend just leased a new Ford Fusion (5 spd manual of course) and it came with "ambient lighting" the LED's have like 10 different colors, and light up the foot wells, and the rings around the cup holders. The nice feature is that it has an "off" button.

the little blue light is indeed illumination for the console area of the interior. honda logic and simple function.
