I a proud owner (3 days) of CRV EX-L with Navi. I was surprised that it did not seem to have blue tooth option... did I overlook it?

No, the CRV is not offered with Bluetooth. Also, Honda doesn't do options... They do accessories :)

I stand corrected :-)

Thanks, at least I did not overlook it!

I love the car - more than even I hoped for!

I like the Motorola HS850 headset.

If you're looking for bluetooth, you really can't do better than Parrot.

They range from $100-$250 depending on features.

I have a Nuvi 360 with blue tooth. It has a built in microphone. I bought a $3 cable from Radio shack and hooked it to the aux input of the CRV's audio system. I can now listen in to the calls through the car's speaker system and the bluetooth functionality is great and no one at the other end can figure I am using bluetooth/car speaker system. One of the reasons I did not go for navigation was due to absence of bluetooth so went for a bluetooth GPS.

Ah! Very clever! CRV's Navi is fantastic though, it was one of the main things that made me want it (and backup camera), but I wonder if anyone else has a good aftermarket solution? Is there some add on that can add bluetooth capabilities?

I guess that it should be possible to get an original solution.
In Europe voice controlled bluetooth handsfree is included when you get a model with navigation and backup camera.

For models without navigation, you can get a bluetooth handsfree with the controlls mounted on the A-pillar.

How very interesting! I thought they reserved Bluetooth for the Acura line. I test drove RDX and it had Bluetooth along with the next generation of the Navi (which I actually liked less than CRV's, because I love the touch screen interface. Acura RDX had a joystick-type control)

It has both, just like my MDX. Since it's extremely hard to remove finger tips from those screens, I always used the joystick instead.
What I hate about navi equipped Honda cars is if you have to make audio and A/C changes thru the stupid screen, and it gets old very quickly; not a very good system. With the excellent aftermarket navis out there, it just doesn't make any sense to pay $2K for a permanent one, when you can buy an equally good (actually better, with bluetooth) AND portabale for less than half that.

I have about 18 months on the Honda Nav system in my '06 civic. I'll be ordering a CRV soon, but I think I'll pass on the nav. In general it's a good system, but for the $$ I'll be going in a different direction.

Fact is, the DVD database is often out of date and very $$ to update. Also this unit does not include traffic updates as far as I can tell.

Audio navigation is poor, try to surf XM channels not in preset.

The lack of BT is an outrage. This is a simple safety feature that is available on quite a few lower end Toyota and Nissan cars.

I love gadgets, but honestly think a well installed aftermarket nav/BT and backup sensors will do the deal with more functionality and less cost, maybe I'll add in the fog lights....

Dan in Dallas.... pulling the trigger soon, once I hear more about what '09 has offer.

I know what you mean about those fingerprints....does anybody have a good method to remove the annoying finerprints from the navi screen ??
Don't know what you mean by A/C changes.....they aren't accessed from the navi screen.

They are not accessed from the navi screen but actually are from the voice commands on the 2008 CR-V

Honda does offer a blue tooth option for 2007 and above model. Only catch is you have to order from Europe, Australia, or New Zealand.

Honda does offer BT HFL for 2008 - http://www.hondahflaccessory.com/about.taf
has sunroof controls, and looks like maybe homelink as well -
question is - does it retro-fit into gen3 CRV?
expensive too - http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280238387995&ssPageName=MERC_VI_RSCC_Pr4_PcY_BIN_Stores_IT&refitem=280255820718&itemcount=4&refwidgetloc=active_view_item&usedrule1=StoreCatToStoreCat&refwidgettype=cross_promot_widget&_trksid=p284.m184&_trkparms=algo%3DDR%26its%3DS%252BI%252BSS%26itu%3 DISS%252BUCI%252BSI%26otn%3D4 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280238387995&ssPageName=MERC_VI_RSCC_Pr4_PcY_BIN_Stores_IT&refitem=280255820718&itemcount=4&refwidgetloc=active_view_item&usedrule1=StoreCatToStoreCat&refwidgettype=cross_promot_widget&_trksid=p284.m184&_trkparms=algo%3DDR%26its%3DS%252BI%252BSS%26itu%3 DISS%252BUCI%252BSI%26otn%3D4)

part number for the HFL is 08E00-E10-100 -- http://slhondaparts.com/search.asp?partNo=08e00-e10-100&submit=Search+Database%21
I have a copy of the install PDF - it doesn't replace the console - it gets installed in the existing console and replaces the sunglass holder. So homelink is only available if you already have it installed in the existing console.
note - the pdf file is too big to attach - so not sure how to share this if anyone is interested.

I beileve the console shown is from the Accord. This is probably so BT can be added to the non-Navi Accords. I sent the link to my dealership parts department and they could not find this part available for the CRV.

the p/n is for the accord - the console you see is from the accord -- but what you get is not a console but all the hardware of the BT HFL that are mounted into the existing console - fits both the long console and the short console. PDF Instructions include templates to cut out mounting locations for the HFL and a new cover plate that replaces the sunglass holder. I put all this information out because the BT HFL is an option on european models so there must be some way to mod this to US models.
here is the linkto install from HandA: http://handaccessories.com/accord/08handsfree.pdf

The question in my mind is how are you going to wire it? It is designed for the Accord, so there may not be plugs for the included wiring harness to plug into on a CR-V.

How much is OE going to run you?

My guess is more than a better-thought-out parrot . . . don't "pull an Ernie" unless you're ready to have an accessory that doesn't go to anything . . . you may get lucky, but know the risks.

my observation is that honda tends to over-integrate some items - look at their ambient lighting for the accord - do you need to wire it into the combo switch or could you just plug it into an "on with ignition" outlet in the fuse box? Same with the bluetooth HFL - I don't know what all it is wired into since I do not have an 08 schematic, but I would think it would work as a standalone system without being integrated as much as Honda wants to integrate it. If the mic and speaker are part of the hardware installed in the console, wouldn't this also work if plugged into a "on with ignition" outlet in the fuse box? I imagine someone on this forum with more electrical knowledge than I (or owner of a 08 accord and a G3 CRV) will figure it out to everyones advantage.

Racoon

From the wiring information in the PDF, the only odd thing I see is that it plugs into what looks like the handbrake wiring.

However, Ernie has a valid point -- at $418 list price for the "base kit" it's awfully expensive for something that might or might not work.

And I can remember from the "XM Ready" 2nd Gen CR-Vs that the 'base kit' was only one of the components required.

For that price, you could start to hack together that Ford/Microsoft voice integration

Seriously, I paid $650 for my Avic D3 x (X means the ipod cable and bluetooth came with it) . . . the bluetooth is better than average (I'd say decent) but if that's the key component, Parrot is the name in the industry that keeps popping up.

forget all about the crappy OEM HF and either get a Parrot unit or the one matching your aftermarket head unit. i love the one in my van's Kenwood HU (KCA-BT100), works like a charm.
