Hi,
I just went for a test drive in the CRV and I fell in love with it.
Few things I would like to ask the kind people here.
1. What's the consumption of this car?
2. Any known problems or bugs with this car?
Thanks!

Welcome to the forum! You can find all kinds of answers by browsing through, but here's my take:
Consumption average between 8-10 km/l - I get between 9.5 - 10 on the average.
Bugs? Not really. You can feel from the owners here - how they love this
car. Real time 4x4 gives you on demand slippage control, which means
it is not selectable - but if you are not going off roads, then this would not
matter much.

Thanks.....BTW, what do you mean by full-time 4x4? And any diff between AWD and 4WD.
Hi, Welcome to the Forum!
ok, the current CR-V comes in two models, the 2WD and the 4WD.
Those from the PI are a mix of both... with more 2WD. KM's are all 4WD.
The V's 4WD is not selectable but rather computer controlled thru the car's ECU, it senses and control the slippage and traction of all the wheels. Most times under normal driving, the 4WD is not likely engaged, but push it thru a corner hard, you'll feel the 4WD working overtime!
For the 2WD version, its a FF car. Meaning front-engine, front-wheel drive.
Basically, unless u corners hard and takes the car off-road, they are basically the same, except from the obvious like rear tyre, etc.
AWD and 4WD.... not too sure what's the diff. I always thought they are the same!! anybody care to shed of light on this?? Is it another one of those techtalk that ppl come out with to sound diff from others... but are actually the same?? haha...
the V's consumption is quite decent for its range. I would think its rather economical for a SUV. I get about 9.5-10km/L.

Congratulations!! From KM?
Joining them to go to Kuantan for the June holidays? It would be a great
way to baptize with a larger group in your new V.
I got mine from KM, and the Salesman gave me a couple of advices
about going to MY....like parking near the main door, make sure the
guards at Genting take down your passports and car number..etc...
Have fun!
shark2927
04-17-2004, 09:36 AM
Ya....I got it from KM. You mean the kuantan trip is org by KM?
CRV2004
04-17-2004, 09:39 AM
hi shark2927
Make sure the sale guy gives you everything....3M mat and the back cover..
shark2927
04-17-2004, 09:46 AM
talking about this. The back cover is the one that cover the spare tyre is it? I didn't see it in the showroom car. I saw the showroom car with the 3M mat at the rear passenger floor only, but not the front. Is this what you mean?
GreenCRV03
04-17-2004, 05:38 PM
The Kuantan trip is "sponsored" by KM and organized by Wheels for fun.
Quite a nice way to baptize going into MY - that is, if you have not been
going further than JB and Malacca.
By the way, the back cover is the tonneau cover, that cover up your
storage area in the rear. Should be a standard issue since it is from
KM - if not, scream!!
There is no spare tyre in the boot. It is "hanging" at the rear door.
shark2927
04-17-2004, 07:06 PM
The trip sound interesting :D
Ya, it comes with the tonneau cover for sports ver. I have seen the cover for the spare tyre in the test drive car. It looks like an added protection to the wheel cover.
Did you installed V-Kool in your CRV? Any installer to recommed?
GreenCRV03
04-17-2004, 10:22 PM
Sorry, no V Kool for me. I don't see the need for spending the extra
cash. As much as it can keep the cool out, it can keep the warm in
too 8)
Maybe you want to check with the seniors and mentor, Paul Tan of this group. He got lots of contacts..
About that cover, you mean that one at the back where you can
see "CRV"? I check the e-site where Honda.com.sg, and it is selling for
a ridiculous sum of S500++!! Yes, it comes standard with KM CRV.
Thanks.

AWD and 4WD.... not too sure what's the diff. I always thought they are the same!! anybody care to shed of light on this?? Is it another one of those techtalk that ppl come out with to sound diff from others... but are actually the same?? haha...
Hi kjen,
From my understanding, AWD is when all four wheels are driven, and front and back wheels are directly linked. A true 4WD is when the engine driveshaft connects to a "centre differential" gearbox that is located about midway between the front and rear wheels. Separate driveshafts from the centre differential then connects to the front differential and rear differential gearboxes. ie. Front and rear wheels are independant of each other, and torque from the engine would be directed to the wheels that most need it.
In other words, most "4WD" softroaders, wagons and cars are actually AWD. ie. RAV4 is also an AWD, not "4WD". But the X-Trail is a proper 4WD.. The V is somewhat of a hybrid, hence a RT4WD designation is not quite wrong (but not strictly right either).
Finally, it IS a bit of a marketing jargon thing. Try arguing with the sales staff that a particular vehicle is AWD and not 4WD!

hi shark2927,
It depend where you park your car most of the time. I park mine under the sun 7 days a week. So don't need to have V-kool. But it does help if you don't park under the sun for too long, it help to cool down faster.
My friend who park outside the company open car park and we use to go out for lunch found that with V-cool it not only keep the heat out but also prevent heat from getting out. Causing the car to be very hot inside compare to mine which don't have V-cool.
So advice is if you park your car in the open most of the time, spend your money on something else.

Hi kjen,
How do you know when the RT4WD has engaged? Is there an indicator light? What is it you "feel" when it engages?

Hi Shark2927 and CRV2004,
I think the tourneau cover comes standard with KM's V's. I asked, since it wasn't on the showroom model, but was told it's provided.
shark2927
04-18-2004, 07:02 PM
Hi paultan,
I park my car at the open most of the time. Everyday after work sit in the car like oven man.
So your advise is not to waste money on V-Kool.
paultan
04-18-2004, 11:07 PM
hi shark2927,
Yes, if you park your car in the open most of the time. With Vkool, it will be worst than now without Vkool.
Basically, when we park in open, Vkool prevent heat from entering through the window faster but heat will still enter through the metal panel of your car. So if you park for an hr or so, the car won't feel so hot as comapare to the one without Vkool.
But over long hr, heat start to build up inside and vkool which keep the heat out also prevent heat from getting out. So your car will be hotter than the one without Vkool.
However, vkool is great when you are driving long distance. As it help to keep the cool air- con air in without overworking the compressor.

Ya...the tourneau cover comes with the car.
Another question. I saw the black CRV in the showrrom with a grey wheel cover., I was wondering can I change it to balck instead. As mine is a black CRV.
Also quite keen in the window visor. Any idea is it those that just using sticker or clip.
Sorry for so much question. I really excited about my new CRV.
Hi All,
To answer a couple of question here.
1) The 4WD will only engage when the mechanical pump sense a
pressure differences between the front and rear. Due to pressure differences, the pump will transmit power to the rear. This will happen when there is a front wheel slippage. The ECU will not activate this engagement and it's mechanically engaged. As it's mechanical, no electrical power is used to power the engagement so there is no light indicator for indication. I have drove the V in the sandy area in Tuas and sense the engagement. You will feel the V seems more heavy to drive. Drive thru a puddle of water at hi speed, u will experience few second of engagement.
2) Make sure u complete your 1K service before going for a long drive for New V owner. The V tends to stay at hi speed. Driving @ below 90km/hr is sometime quite boring on a highway. I felt comfortable driving @ 130-140km/hr in NS highway.
3) Buy those thick dark visor. They really look nice. Save a couple of bucks and jeopardize the look is simply not worthwhile. I regret mine current visor. Impatience that lead to compromise. Check with other guys where they got theirs. Those with 3M stickers will last too but if they come with clips, that will be even better. I like Paul's and Kelvin's Visor.

Alex, thanks for the info.
Shark2927, The spare wheel cover from KM is a standard grey, regardless of what colour your V is. I was also thinking of spraying it black to match. Anyone else? We could organise a group discount thing? :D
As for the V-kool, I park my car in the open the whole day. My experience with my Civic (without V-kool) was that coming back to the car was torture. The leather seat would remain so hot that 30 min later, my bum and back would still be sweating, despite blasting the aircon. But when I got the V, it was noticeably better. Although the air in the cabin was still warm when I open the door, just 30sec with the window or sunroof open while driving off would clear the heat. The leather seats are also not quite as warm. And bear in mind that it's getting sunnier and quite warm these days.
While I agree with Paul that the V-kool film is just as likely to RETAIN heat as to REFLECT heat away, and once the heat gets in, it cannot get out, I think all it takes is to open the windows to vent the air. It seems to me that the V-kool does make the cabin a bit cooler than without. YMMV.
Finally, V-kool is supposed to keep out UV as well, so that prevents fading and other UV damage to the interior, and will also prevent sunburn when driving long distance.

Thanks.....at least I have a gauge now. I will try asking the SE at Kah Motor see how much he take back.
Alex... thinking of doing up my ICE. Any recommendations??? something thats cheap and good. What brand of speakers would be good for our car, dun want a too elaborate system... simple is the key. Please advise.
cheers..
Hi Shark2927,
Is KM still giving the Sony WX4500X ????
Teach u a trick and dunno if this will work.
Ask how much is the WX4500X worth, then ask for better unit and pay the differences instead of trade in. Trade in will be treated as second hand.
Got it????

Hi all,
Is the sony head unit that bad that needed to be changed? So what head unit is good? By adding a amp and change to better speakers, and keeping the sony head unit will be good enough? Anyone any comments?

Hi 1277,
Not sure what model KM is gicing? Reason why I'm selling it off is because I'm transfering my in-dash vcd over to my V. But my proposal to bring over my amp and sub was rejetced my my wife. :?
Hi Shark2927,

My wife did not agree to install my 12" Sub and extra amp on my V as we now have a kid!!!!!

Hi all
The stock Sony set is good stuff,,,which is more I can say for the component and speakers. I am thinking of changing the component and speakers. In additional, a good amplifier. I know probably, you guys have some preferences in some good accessories shop providing these audio equipment. For me, I usually go to the one and only accessory shop in "chomp chomp" next to the coffee bean for good deal and services. If you guys happen to be there check it out. They also do trade in......
cheers
Hi CRV2004,
The Sony set look impressive but does not come with pre-out except for the sub-woofer!!!!! The stock speaker is even more amazing.
It's a plastic speaker with paper cone that does not have a strong magnet.
So small diameter. Funny thing is that it can produce good mid and hi but without bass. Speaker is abt couple hundred gram each. If you pump to loud, the speaker will tear easily if you play songs with strong bass.

Hi Guys,
Other than the boot. I think the only place to install the amp is under the driver seat right. As the space under the front passenger seat is taken by the drawer.
Any good idea where to place the amp. If i can find space to put the amp other than the boot. I will try to send out a proposal to my wife for approval.
Hi 2927,
For my case, I sarifice my drawer under the passenger seat. I places my amp there and my CD changer under the driver seat. That should hide both of them.
So will you be selling your amp and sub? Whats the brand and what price you are willing to let go for them?

Hey 1277
Do you know will the warranty be void if we add or change the audio accessories? I heard from my SE from kah it is best not to change anything that is connected to electrical to avoid disputes. Any comments? anyone.

04-21-2004, 08:01 PM
hi,
You can still keep the drawer. I have change two amp on my V before and both can fit in. The previous one was a Helix(HXA 40X MKII)
http://www.audiotec-fischer.com/index2.html
But brass not very heavy but great for vocal or jazz sound.
Now I'm using Alpine V12- MRV-F340 V12 4/3/2 Channel Power Amplifier.
It sit nicely under the seat with just enough headroom for the drawer.
check http://www.alpine.com.au/active_pages/amplifier_page.asp
Also added in a Blaupunkt, velocity digital active sub. The smallest size sub with deep brass. Not bad. Don't take up too much space.
see my other post.

Hi Apes,
U want my Blaupunkt 12" bass tube Sub with my 500W amp? Hahahahahahhaha. I can't remember the brand of the amp and can find out. I can let it go cheap if you want to add this in the V. So I can experience it once again but not in my V. My CO dis-allow me to put them back again.
Warning: Problem is the bass will be very powerful and u must be prepare to add a switch to cut the 2nd amp off if you do not need that bass. That was wat I did previously. Alone and long drive, I pump it ON. If others on board, I switch the bass amp off. You need a cross-over to regulate the sound quality for single or double amp configuration. The audio guy was confuse when I instructed him on this type of setup previously with 3 amp setup. After installation, he learn something. The bass will really shake my body and after adding this to the boot in my old Lancer, the joints of the boot begin to crack due to hugh resonance. I have to do boot sound proofing to prevent it from further damage!!!!!! Should be OK for the V unlike saloon boot which is filmsy.
If you like the deep base, this type be perfect and I can also give you my set of base shaker to be mounted under the seats to add another dimension of bass which was given to me as a gift from Rockford Fosgate's agent after my current DLS installation.
Resonance and base shake!!!!! Dun need high volume to experience deep bass performance. Proper tuning is required to get best sound quality and I guess no one want to be label as Ah Beng V with only BOOM BOOM BOOM!!!!!! Hahahahahahaha
I m still very tempted to set it up on my V but my CO never allow this to happen anymore!!!!!! She never get to experience this before as it's a norm to cut them off when she is on board but she think the 12" bass tube sub will take up space on the rear and with a 2 yrs old kid.
How I wish I could do like X did, make use of the spare wheel well to do such setup. I'm still considering.
Sigh
Take a look of Rockford @ http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/home/#Scene_1
Take a look on DLS @ http://www.dls.se/english/index.htm
I have no problem with KM on audio setup. Perhaps it's the KM salesman tactic to prevent delay on closure of booking and deliverable.
I guess they will only find fault if there is a short circuit or electrical issue.
If you have proper setup and tap directly to the battery with current protection, should be OK and will not void warranty. I always ask and challenge them if necessary to avoid future disputes.

hi Dennis,
Sorry did not reply you earlier, care to tell me how much you are selling? As I prefer sub's bass that tube bass? your 500W amp, what brand is it?
I have a 350W lancer amp and a 10 inch Cerwin sub already in my back, but still not satisfied with the bass, there for looking for a better bass unit. If you can let go cheap as you mention, I may just place 2 bass unit behind or either place one of them in my mom's car.

You won't be disappointed with the Kicker Solo Baric L7 bass  . But you need a power amp to kick this guys. I really don't know how to quote you. May I know what is your budget.

Hi Dennis,
Its better for you to give a price range that you are most willing to let go. I am a Singaporean, and basically I want the cheapest price, and for me to offer you a price. The price may make you laugh or maybe anger you. Instead of causing any grievances to anyone of us, its better for you to say a price that you are most comfortable to let go.

Thanks anyway.
