View Full Version : Pilot vs CR-V: Good time to buy a Pilot??

Given that the 2007 Pilot appears to be the last year of the current design, and the 2007 CR-V is in the first year of a new design, it seems that you can get good discounts on a Pilot and not so good discounts on the CR-V!

Anyone care to comment on whether this might mean that it's a good time to buy a Pilot for just a few more bucks than you would have to pay for a similarly outfitted CR-V, i.e., a Pilot 4WD EX-L vs. the CR-V 4WD EX-L?

If you have done some pricing research on this and can add it to your post, that would be appreciated!

Thanks for reading and responding!

You might get a good deal on the purchase price of a Pilot, but have you considered the difference in fuel mileage between the CR-V and Pilot and what that means in terms of operating costs? Also, have you compared insurance costs for the two vehicles?

It's not just the purchase price you should consider.

Thanks for your post Racoon!

Of course you are correct that these costs need to be evaluated.

Any idea off hand how much more insurance might be?

I will talk to my agent for a comparison, but perhaps you have some experience here?

Insurance costs vary considerably because of your personal driving record, location, and actual coverage amounts.

The only way to know is to ask an insurance agent for an estimate based on where you live and your driving record.

Dan,
We just bought an 07 pilot (lx, 2wd) for $24,700 which is 300 below invoice. Quite a deal, we think. I have also been getting quotes for my father for a 07 cr-v lx 2wd, and the best quote I've received is for $20,395. I can't recall if that is higher or lower than invoice, but it is definitely below MSRP. So I agree that this would be a good time to buy a pilot if you are looking for one. Just be aware (as others have posted) that the pilot is a very different vehicle: Poorer gas mileage but roomier, etc. Depends on what you are looking for. If you do not need so much room, I'd stick with the cr-v. We only bought the pilot for the extra room needed for kids, etc.

Hope this helps!

Stan
