Friends of mine, a couple, just picked up a new Tracker yesterday. The thing that is so hard to understand is that why pay a similar price and get a Chevy when you can buy a V? Are the incentives that great that lower the price. Invoice is about the same for V and Tracker. Is it the status of having a V6 in a small suv?

I ran a comparison of the two on my consumer reports and the Chevy didn't score well (not the worst of all) in several areas. I wasn't sure what to expect since I've never owned one.

I guess there are chevy owners out there who won't buy anything else, just as there are with Honda, etc.

Any opinions on this?

I had a (at that time) GEO Tracker before my CR-V. Ran pretty good for the 80,000 miles I had it...except the front brake rotors had to be replaced at about 50,000 miles (they couldn't be turned), the doors developed rust spots along the bottom, both the muffler and catalytic converter rusted out and had to be replaced. Oh, and at just over 80,000 miles the fuel injection system fried itself and took out the ECU computer to the tune of $2,500.

I've got just over 60,000 miles on my CR-V and no problems yet.

Not everybody is the same. I understand that there are even folks out there who want to get married to the same sex. Others pierce holes in their own body.

So now you expect everyone to have the same taste in cars? Give up on that. Won't happen.

bumpzter,
was encouraging a discussion on the appeal of another choice in the same category as the V.

I can see if it was a lot cheaper in price, then go for it. But paying a similar price? If I was bent on buying domestic, I'd pick an Escape/Tribute over the Tracker.

Your first mistake is placing your trust in CR.
Your second mistake is not realizing that some people have had very good luck with Chevy, Ford, even Volvo's therefore, they will stick with that brand till they get a bad apple. Guess they do know better then to venture into a brand that may cost the same but they fear the unknown? Or maybe they just don't like the brand you like and you don't understand why?

I was just trying to be funny, Shel.

But seriously, you'll never be able to figure out why not everyone wants to buy the same products. And actually, it's a good thing. Otherwise it would be a pretty boring world, wouldn't it?

My cousins own a Chevy Tracker in Canada. I don't think its that refined as the CR-V and its smaller and feels cheaper IMO.

Chevy Tracker is a vehicle capable of real offroading...its box on ladder chassis and the high/low gears on the 4wd system makes it one of the best offroaders in its class...of course sacrifices have to be made and the onroad performance is robbed...

its still a very goood car

chevy tracker = suzuki sidekick (vitara)

though i own a v but i love suzuki sidekick....since it was the pioneer of SUV type vehicle here....

never heard of anyone of really complaining about the reliabilty of suzuki vitara here though......

love the design, price cheaper than v ....

nothing wrong in a suzuki vitara :)
