I haven't heard of anyone else having this problem (yet) so it may end up being an isolated problem, but wanted to share it with folks in case others start hving the same problem.

About two starts after filling up my 2007 EX-L w/Navi for the first time after I purchased it, the gas tank level indication failed. Indications on the dash display were;
1. Gas tank empty;
2. Flashing "yellow gas pump" indication light (Owner's Manual states that the light will come on steady if you get down to a low level on the tank...so I am assuming the flassing yellow light indicates a loss of signal); and,
3. The mpg computation went to three dashed line ' ---.'

Took the car in and after about 5 hours of troubleshooting and taking the dashboard apart, the dealer said that the fuel tank send module was bad and needed to be (ordered and) replaced.

However, when I went to pick up the car and started it up for the first time, the gas tank level indication returned to normal operation.

The gas tank level indication problem has not occurred since, but since the repairs are under warranty, decided to still have the gas tank send module replaced when it arrived.

That might have been a mistake! Took my CR-V in today and they replaced the 'send unit' and everything seemed to be working fine...BUT about 3-4 miles into the drive the gas tank level indication has failed again. The dealer is continuing to troubleshoot the problem.

Anyone have any ideas or heard of similar problems on the new 2007's?

It's disconcerting when the dealer (who has the manuals and the TSB's and the special diagnostic tools) can't diagnose their way out of a paper bag.

:shock:

My brother said have they checked the harness for pinched shorts

or loose connectors.

this is the cause for 95% of these problems

Rach,

At this point the Dealer was not able to resolve the problem and they have gone ahead and ordered a new entire dashboard gauge/dial/indicator assembly (yes, the entire assembly that includes the odometer, tach, and lights!).

However, when I picked up my CR-V Friday evening the gas tank level was working fine. Once I saw that I went back to the Service Advisor and asked him exactly what problem they are trying to solve by replacing the entire gauge assembly if the level indication is working now. He said that the problem is intermittent and they don't know why the tank level indication is failing for sure but based on their troubleshooting plus replacement of the tank level send module, the only other circuitry that could be the problem is an integrated part of the dash gage assembly.

I have driven about 100 miles since Friday and the tank level indication hasn't failed again. I know that intermittent electronic problems can be a bear to identify and resolve and sometimes you have to resort to "black box engineering" which means you have to keep replacing electronic assemblies until you get rid of the problem and then tuck away the results for the future. However, at this point, I am hesitating to have them replace the entire gage assembly when they can't tell me for sure this will fix the problem or what exactly the problem is they think they have AND it has been working just fine since I picked it up (kinda backs up Curly Q's Links reply about this :) ).

I am thinking of just letting things stay the way they are unless it fails again and then taking it to one of the other local dealers that is a bit larger and I have dealt with before. Even though this is warranty work, everyday to work on this is a FULL day in the shop (and without a car) since they have to disassemble the entire dashboard to reach the modules/wiring AND the dealer I bought the car from/am having do this work does not offer loaner or even rental cars PLUS they won't touch this kind of work on the weekend.

P.S. Yep, I have checked the Washington Lemon Law and it would apply in this case when 4 or more attempts are made to resolve this issue and it still occurs.

Does your state's lemon law state "disabling condition" or simply 4 attempts to fix the same problem. Most states wouldn't allow yours to be included due to that wording. Your dealer won't give you a loaner? Ask your salesman for HIS car.
