Guys, last December I had to replace my distributor since I'm close to 120K and the engine light came on. According to my mechanic, the diagnostic says its misfiring on 3. The plugs and wires were replaced a year ago so I don't think its coming from there.

Last week the light came back on and this morning when I started the car, the light didn't come on ... hmmmm ... took it there and had him read the diagnostic again for the 2nd time ... still saying the same thing.

He's contemplating that there's something wrong with the intake mainifold gasket like a leak or something. I'll just keep an eye if it comes back again.

So, what do you think is causing this?

Thanks for all the help.

Stop driving the CR-V, serious. You need to SEARCH 'burnt and valves'. Every 30,000 miles they should be checked and set to the loose side of the specs. I'm guessing your mechanic isn't a CR-V (or Integra) kind of guy. He would have checked the valves first.

Has it ever stalled at the first stop sign in the morning, before it was fully warmed up? That would be the telltale sign that its a valve getting ready to depart this life (often taking the head with it).

:-(

It doesn't stall in the morning.

I agree with Curly. DON'T drive it. Have your mechanic do a leakdown test.

Replacing a couple of valves is a whole lot cheaper than an entire new head. If it is a valve receeding issue, stopping immediately may be enough to save the head.

Well damn, I thought Honda engines are immaculate ... hmmmm ... so eventhough I took care of it and everything, the engine is a piece of **** like the issues with the 07's rear differential huh ... what the ***???!!!!!

Taking care of it means 30k mile valve adjustments. That being said, there are numerous people here with over 200,000 miles on them. My 99 has 132,000 and my last valve adjustment was a couple of months ago. One exhaust valve was getting tight, like they all will if not adjusted.

It is pretty easy to pull the valve cover and check valve clearances even if you have just a few basic tools. I will be sending you a PM.
