Hi members,

I want to welcome you to the new HondaSUV.com forums. I hope this doesn't present too confusing for you as we migrate onto a new site platform.

What you see today is just the beginning. In the near future, you will see more site enhancements to make this into a friendlier and helpful place.

I want to thank you for your support and patience. Feel free to continue sending emails with your comments.

Thanks once again.

Folks, if you're getting a message saying you've been "banned" when you try to post it's not true. You haven't really been banned from posting. It's just that we're having a few issues with the permissions settings on this new message board software.

Please be patient with us as we work through the problems.

Thanks,
Rac...

Thanks for your patience and emails folks. I hope to have gone through all emails but in case you didn't hear from me, please write again.

In any case, you should all now have access to post, read and enjoy the site. You should also have access to upload attachments.

You do have to add your profile pictures...sorry.

Bing,
This format looks just like the one you have on the Fit site. I like it. Thanks for keeping it up and running. I look forward to seeing how this works out for the better.
As for pics, sigs, and avatars. These are a lot of smart folks. They'll figure it all out soon.
WT

edit - uh, now I need to ask the smart folks...how do I add my avatar and sig pic back? I followed the 100x100 and less than 64k guidelines and it says my file is invalid. I really would like to be "validated." :)

Yeah! Avatar Added:)

This would be a good time to reduce the number of subforums, as I feel that there are far too many at the moment.

For example, the 2007 CR-V forum has separate forums for "Issues and Complaints" and "General Discussions" - and there is a ton of overlap between the two.

Other subforums like "Things you didn't know about your 2007 Honda CR-V?" also belong in General Discussion.

All the multiple forums do is require people to look in more than one place to read the posts.

I was going "NUTZ" last night, without my HondaSUV "Fix". (I HATE being BANNED from anything!)

I'm also looking for those smilies!!!!! And the formatting tags.

after the transfer from the old board [where my pm box was maybe 80% full]

can we have the pm box a bit larger?

Lookin' good! Just a potential bug- it seems like when I am looking at one of the boards it shows the newest post in the margin but when I actually click on the thread the "newest post" is nowhere to be found. Also the threads don't seem to be organized according to latest post anymore, they don't seem to be ordered by date- maybe its just a setting I have wrong but it just seems a little odd/frustrating.

Anyway, it looks good!! Keep up the awesome job!

Nice Work!

Just wondering. The threads I have previously posted in showed up in the old CP as "subsribed threads" and I received e-mails when posts got posted to them.

Now....I have no subsribed threads listed at all.....so, I will not recieve e-mails for replies to those threads any longer?

Also, there was a link where it said I was logged in in the upper right on old site that said 'click for "your" threads'. No more?

Thanx again for the hard work.

Carbuff2

Kevin,

To get your FourAces back, just right click on the picture, Copy it, then Paste into the correct spot in your User CP (You may have to host the picture on a website like Imageshack or Photobucket and resize).

(Now YOU have to tell ME how you got 6 lines into your Sig!) :)

DSNsCR-V,

When you post to new topics you are not automatically subscribed as before. Instead, you scroll down to Additional Options and click the Notification Type that you want. Maybe there is a Default that Bing can set.

You can "globally" subscribe to the whole Forum or a single Sub-Forum (like 1997 - 2006:Clinical Rounds). These subscriptions can be turned on and off in your User Control Panel (CP).

Roadster,

in your User CP Options you can specify WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) then images and smilies will show in the Preview.

HTH

With help from Atwell and the famous roadster, somehow I figured out how to get my four aces up again as my avatar. The four aces stand for my four Honda's as well as my last name begins with the letter A. All this little project has done is taken me away from regrouting one of the bathrooms upstairs. I guess now I have to take a look at my signature and respond back to Carbuff2 (Atwell) as to how I have six lines in it.

also in the signiture go in there and make sure you C/P and save to your pc and do this

1. take all the lines out and make it one continues one that'll take away the per line

after you're done you can lay a flooor and do our BR LOL. hope that helps out some 4H

Ooh I do like a change ! !

All good entertainment......

It's all a bit at sea at the moment, but probably the best time to give feedback. . . I'm sure there will be scope for more new toys with the new software. .

I'm using this very same software on the UK Volvo boards I use. Over there we get more than 4 smilies, per post, and the board default text editors are the advanced ones. Maybe it would be easier to default to those, as I assume most people will end up using them anyway once they find out about them. It's only the same toolbar items as in MS outlook, or word, and has a familiar feel, so I doubt it would confuse anybody.

More smilies per post would be a big help, as they really do help emphasise points quite well ;) :D

EDIT: Hey!!! those weren't the smilies from the drop down menu!!!! they were diferent ones.....better ones...... oh well that's progress....he he...

Hey Bing, while you're in the board software tinkering around, is there a way to limit the total size of everything in one's sig? Roadster has a cumulative 1.8MB in his with all those animations, causing my computer to stall for a couple seconds to load them whenever I hit one of his posts. Quite annoying.

If you are using Firefox, simply move the mouse over the offending object, picture, avatar, etc., right click and then select "Block images from _ _ _ _ "

No more loading of the image. ;)

I've got a question...

What do the little envelopes to the left of the thread titles signify? Some are yellow, some are orange, some are closed and some have sheets sticking out. I've looked through the FAQ's and the posts in this thread and didn't find an explanation.

Just curious!

Racoon

I believe the colors denote activity (orange is more active then yellow).

The open envelopes with a sheet sticking out indicate new posts that you have not read yet.

Go to the main Forum index, then scroll all the way to the bottom. A partial explanation is there.

(My theory is, it has to do with the weather. If the paper sheets are waving, it's windy; droopy, it's raining; stiff, it's freezing out. And if they are dark, it's night-time.) <---This is why I'm not a moderator.

The smilies are still there. You have to click REPLY in the lower right corner of the previous post. Then the Smilie drop down becomes active.

On this subject, it seems that the forum default when you subscribe to a topic is NOT to get notification of replies, even though the "poster" is subscribed. (Just look at the check marks when you click on the forums you visit.)

If you scroll down to Additional Options in the Reply screen (not the quick reply screen, though) you have the option of instant, daily, or weekly notification. I often forget to select one, though.

Perhaps the default could be chasnged....:!:

the smilies in the quick reply drop-down smilies menu are the following
http://img260.imageshack.us/img260/1038/smilies5pw.jpg
however when posted the above smilies get replaced and turn to the those on the second row [and yes - some disappear]

also the following smilies repeat in the advanced reply smilies box:

the following is the code for all the smilies the way i listed them

The number of posts in the Gen1 Gen2 forums declined BEFORE the new software hit. I think the 2007 Forums compensated for it.

That said, I think the 2007 spy forum can be eliminated or made a subfolder in the 2007 V Forum, now that the SUV has been out a few months? Likewise, the RDX spy folders. In fact it's too bad we can't get a combined forum for the 2007 V and RDX...same platform, all made by HONDA.:-|

I found how to set all my previously answered topics at once, but not how to do it in the future, automatically.

Also, there is a description of the envelope icons on each topic on the Subscription page. 8)

someone sterring you in the wrong direction, reading a cross sign
a side show on the r oad?

SPAM = posts advertising websites that have nothing to do with Hondas or SUVs, usually related to pornographic materials or financial "services".

When I see them they get deleted and the poster is banned (a new feature with the new message board software).

In the weeks before the message board upgrade, I was deleting 10-20 SPAM posts every 4-6 hours. Since the upgrade I've seen a total of less than a dozen SPAM posts, and have banned less than 10 user accounts. I'm sure the other mods have deleted SPAM, but the volume is way down.

So true Racc. Would Our V's striped down to thechasses be spamm LMAO. I understand we have a of topic section for any situation that comes about. and a Personal classifieds section as well. We are Big Community, and always liked to point members to off site information for example ebay fog lights it is car related, andsome do take that as spam. so spam can be anything one wants it to be, Just be able to keep it real.

as for the IMG yes 4 is the limit. best bet is to sign up for an free account and place a link there? When I made the Avatar how to i taken 4 posts for 16 images that is a way around the limit .
you'll also notice your avatar is no longer motion, but your signiture is

Try this setting on your home computer:

Go to USER CP

Edit options (on left)

midway down:

Thread Display Mode
Here you can choose the display mode for threads. For a full explanation of the modes, please view this help page (http://www.hondasuv.com/members/faq.php?faq=vb_board_usage#faq_vb_threadedmode). Linear - Oldest First Linear - Newest First Threaded Hybrid Thread Display Mode:

So true ETC........

but that is not my problem , or is it?. Caffeen, needs setting in.

So here I made a short clip ofwhat I have troubles with.
1 on a thread ( clinic round) I go to brake light 3rd open the post.

Post number #1 is supposed to be on top, but is on bottom.
I preferre it to be on top post #1, then post #2, #3 etc. without seeing a tree of posts hidden. I have no problem with my laptop viewing, so I do not know if it is in the post itself, or at the private message and to the left like carbuf says . I tried his suggestions and will work on it?
when I tried Carbuff I need the post nott he ones on th thread the post itself?

For the computer challenged...how do spammers "hack" into a forum?

bing
02-16-2007, 12:21 AM
Spammers use automatic "Bots" to fill in the forms and then have people who then click the links on emails to activate accounts. Then they send another bot to enter the site to post. Very irritating and they hit high ranking sites to add links.

I've just made some changes to the registration page so hopefully, the bots won't know what to do.

Thanks,

its all software based, badgerland
malicious programs exploit weak spots in the forum software and automatically post preloaded ads
2 things can be done - hope for the forum developers to plug the whole with their next update
and clean the spam manually meanwhile

Racoon
12-12-2007, 12:32 PM
Either find a thread that's on the same topic and add your question, or use the 'new thread' option to start your own thread. If you're starting a new thread take a moment to think about what you're asking and try to find the right message board to add the thread too.

Welcome to HondaSUV.com.
