hte difference in price was not that much. but the guy at toyota tried to rip me off and I walked away.
with paying just $10more a month I would be driving toyota highlander. it has more space inside and no road noise like my 06 CRV.
highlander seems to me like one class higher than the CRV. anyways too late now after 11months :)))

IMO, the Highlander is not even the same class as the CR-V. It should be compared to the Honda Pilot. The CR-V should be compared to the RAV-4.

One of my daughters has a Highlander and it's a nice (but somewhat bland) vehicle. Also, Toyota recommends premium fuel for the V6 Highlander. I've ridden in both, and still prefer my '06 CR-V.

might be boring, but its consumer reports #1 rated bigger suv, for 10 bucks more a month, even if the guy tried to rip you off, i think u missed a good deal

But $10 more a month for how many extra months... You cannot ever compare by payment amount or you will be taken advantage of.

assuming the same terms
if its a longer term then obviously its not a better deal

Consumer Reports rating of cars for everything other than reliability is TRASH. IMHO.
They complain about EVERYTHING. Their test numbers are always far off from other car magazines, and they complain about firm rides in dedicated sports cars.
If you want to buy an appliance, CR is awesome.... If you want an opinion on a vehicle, not so much.
Silver, I drove a 4 cylinder Highlander once and it was pathetic. I hate everything about the Highlander.... It still is a class above the CRV though.

yep, and consumer reports knows nothing
they give u the most down to earth John Doe review of a car u will ever get with some of the most thorough tests and equip in the business

my first choice was Volvo XC90. but I am a single man by myself. just didnt wanna pay that much.
I drove 4 runner too. it was like a truck. its good if you go up mountains for camping all the time but not for city ride. highlander drives smooth. and its bigger. to me its a real suv. crv is small and kind of ''toy SUV'' , even new ones...
anyhow... if I sell it now I will loosing lot of money. but beleive me its not that bad and boring.

They are a bunch of whiners.
They love boring cars with no personality. Toyota Camry WOOOWWWWWWWWWWWW  EXCITING VEHICLE. Look at their perfomance tests, compare their numbers to anything any other big magazines do. They are constanly slower, and their numbers are much worse. If I ever hear a magazine complain about the fact that a sports cars exhaust is too loud, or ride is too firm I completely disregard their review. They like basic transportation.
Again, I think they are only good for appliances and reliability data for cars.
silverkasik, I have probably driven about 10 Highlanders from the 4 cylinder all the way to the Hybrid. It was the most uninvolving car I have ever driven. I guess they are a good car for people who don't want to think about cars, which isn't me. :?

sleeksilver, most of what you said, I agree with. However, Highlander Hybrid is a different breed. It wasn't meant for anything else other than to say enviromently safe. Very over priced but nevertheless, it does the job. I guess if you want to pay 6k over std Highlander that's boring all around as sleeksilver indicated above. Again, it comes down to paying 10k over the price of CRV to purchase that boring Highlander...
I would like to see Hybrid CR-V :)

Rumor has it, one is in the works :)
The Lexus RX Hybrid is completely pointless.... Mercedes did a study and concluded with normal driving it would take something like 15 or more years for the vehicle to make up it's savings in fuel to make it worthwhile. It is incredibly overrated and over priced!!! Remember, when it comes time to replace the battery packs, it is VERY expensive---- this goes for all Hybrids.

I totally agree and people buy hybrids without considering this... if you dont drive that much there is no point of buying hybrid if you are trying to save from gas. cause in the long run you are loosing much more that regular ones.

I was confusing dealers when I told them I was trying to decide between the Highlander Hybrid and the CR-V. Sure, I know it's apples to oranges, but I can choose the factors when deciding how to spend my money, no matter how irrational :)
However, I just put a deposit down on an incoming Glacier Blue AWD EX-L w/ Navigation. The ultimate deciding factor? The CR-V is more fun to drive than the HiHy; the CR-V is not quite as smoothly fast as the '96 Volvo 850 Turbo it's replacing, but I think my driving record might be better off w/ the CR-V ;)
Besides, in my real life, I'd expect the HiHy to get maybe a couple of mpg better than the CR-V. I've never been a fan of the Camry, so I don't know what made me think I'd like the HiHy. A desire to be greener, I guess. But the fun factor won out, not to mention I can have a much more nicely outfitted CR-V for less than a base HiHy.

I can think of a lot of cars a lot more boring than the Highlander. Notably the Camry, and anything by Ford.

Well, yeah....the '05s spent half their time at the dealers, as a result of serious recalls. They just AREN'T that fast with the wheels in the air. That's boring!
++++++++
The Consumers Reports tests can put everything in perspective. Ever considered buying a Lotus Elise? Talk about fun-to-drive...the car can be steered by telepathy. A real HOOT to drive (I've driven several, on track and off). But CR rated it really low. Most of their points are valid, when compared to other everyday vehicles.
The Lotus is kind of an Anti-Camry (even though both are powered by Toyota!).
+++++++++++++
Back on the Honda topic, CU's surveys (from multitudes of actual owners) indicated that the defective 5 speed trannies on the 2000 - 2003 6 cylinder Accords, Odesseys, and Acura TLs only had an average number of problems. But forums like this ROASTED Honda for making those parts....we want PERFECT reliability from all things Honda. :x
I definitely checked out the CR opinions of the cars I was shopping before I purchased my '06 V. But I also sought out the opinions of the enthusiasts mags, because they are closer to mine. And I chose the V.

Hey, nothing is too late in life. It's only money. If you really are bothered, bite the bullet, take the loss and get the Highlander. Life's too short to live with regret.
I for one drove the 4cyl Highlander and I hated it. The interior was the worst. - That being said, I do own a sienna van, which is tops in it's class. So I'm not anti-Toyota or anything.
You really can't compare the CR-V to the Highlander. They are in 2 different classes as mentioned already. I can tell you this, if you passed up the 6 cyl. Highlander for $10/month, you were getting a great deal. If you passed on the 4 cyl, count your lucky stars. The resale value on the 4cyl is horrible.

Very true about the Highlander.
Honda Oddy has bested the Sienna in every magazine comparo that I can remember :)

Pretty much a dead heat with the magazines. At that point, it becomes personal preference. We liked the smooth ride, the quiet interior, the superior guage cluster and overall interior. We traded in a 1999 Odyssey that had the tranmisson replaced (on warranty) 2 electronic sensors $450, electical issues with the dash board, and a bum power door motor. After reading from Consumer Reports that the electrical components in the new Odysseys were rated below average, we opted for a change. We haven't had 1 single isssue or defect with our 06 sienna in it's first full year of ownership. Couldn't be happier with it.
That being said, the Odyssey is a terrific van too. Couldn't fault anyone for buying one, it just happen to be #2 on our list.

I own a 2005' Odyssey and am planning to get a CR-V. That being said I bought the Odyssey because I have owned all the generations of Odyssey and I never had problems with any of my three vans. Couldn't agree with you more..............honda has done and is doing a superb job to keep ahead of the segmet.
The Honda Odyssey has the sienna beat in terms of comfort, ride, handling, (and even looks>>> in my opinion its kind of similar to the crv in the window chrome etc.) In the most recent 07' Minivan Comparos the Kia has beat the Sienna but not the Odyssey even though the Sienna has gone through many updates since 2004 and the Odyssey is yet to be updated next year with a stronger engine.
Same with the Accord vs. Camry......Fit vs. Yaris (Honda has beat toyota in many many reviews......very good considering the accord and fit are old designs vs. new designs from toyota)
CRV has the RAV-4 (4 cylinder) and i even dare to say highlander 4 cylinder beat in terms of comfort, interior quality, looks (IMO), and resale. However, as many have said Cr-V and Highlander are of different classes.

Toyota cars are ALL boring!!! Drove a Previa Minivan while I was in college. It is no minivan, its huge. And in college! How cool is that? Oh the trauma...
Toyota models are either too big or too small in my opinion.
Stick with the 07 Cr-V, get an LX(and slap on the mugen kit!) or EX-L, or if patient enough, wait for the Special Edition. It's bound to be released, with HIDs and turn signal mirrors.
If it doesn't and you want them, I might be able to get the projector headlights from Japan for about US$210-320 each.(not including shipping, so yeah, it costs a pretty penny). There are two types, 2.5" projector and 3". One has directional movement with steering, the other doesn't. Availability is based on whats listed in the junkyard auctions.
