View Full Version : New twist to the 07 CR-V's rear differential problems?

As I've posted before, my CRV does not yet have the noise in the rear differnential. I've speculated that maybe it's because it hasn't been cold yet and our car sits in a warm garage.

Well, last night I left it outside (29 degrees) and did a couple of circles in both directions this morning. No noise whatsoever. I shrugged and then took it on the highway to go to Home Depot.

But wait, what's this? Now I've got a very mild but quite noticable vibration on the highway! That is the same symptom others have reported after they heard noises coming from their rear diff. I have to suspect it is rear diff related on my car too. I'll bet I'm not the only one out there with a mild vibration and no rear diff noise.

So, what am I to do? Take it to the dealer so they can flush the rear differential fluid like they seem to be doing with everyone else? Problem with that is I've read other people's posts saying that did not cure the vibration.

Or, do I wait till the problem gets worse so that there can be no argument that there is a clear and unmistakable vibration before taking it in and letting them potentially stablize the vibration right where it is and tell me "there you go, all fixed, just flushed the rear differential for you and now everything is fine."

Oh, and by the way, some friends bought a new CRV after seeing ours. I spoke with the husband yesterday to tell him what is being reported on this site and his reaction was "Really, I haven't really driven the car but my wife has been telling me she hears a noise in the rear when backing out of the driveway. Then, when it warms up it goes away." Their car has 500 miles on it.

I really wish Honda would come out with some sort of public announcement on this now obvious and completely widespread defect. Instead, I've got to wonder how I should best "play the game" since Honda is obviously playing one and not owning up to the problems.

I had a mild vibration at 60MPH the first week I drove my 07V. After driving the V and feeling the vibration, the dealer tech said probably flat spots on the front tires. They said drive a few hundred miles, return for further action if it persists.

At 400 miles, still with the vibration, I returned. The service department rebalanced the front tires. Still had the vibration. They switched on a complete set of 4 tires from a new V sitting on the lot. Still had the vibration.

I test drove 4 new V's on the lot and they all had the vibration. After all this they typed a work order saying:

"Upon finding slight vibration to be the same in all 4 test drive situations with customer, no repair made at this time. Possible normal operating characteristic for vehicle. Checked all steering and suspension, driveshafts and propeller shaft. All systems operating normally"

Strangely, the vibration on the highway is now just about gone (800 miles)

I now have the rear noise making tight left turns. As clarion15090 says the highway vibration and differential noise might be related. Although my sequence of noise and vibration is the opposite of his.

Called Honda America: "We have no knowledge of the problem"

Called dealer: " We have been told by Honda of the problem. There are other V's here with the same problem. We are waiting to hear from them for the OFFICIAL fix. Call back in 2 weeks for an appointment."

Someone is not telling the truth here or the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing.

Waiting around for your car to break has got to be wearing. At least with my '06, I can rest pretty easy til 40,000 miles , after which the A/C may/may not explode.

Yep, especially now that the waiting involves putting up with a vibration.

maybe Hondasuv should make a post sticky or put a headline on the site with the underlying problem in the 07 CRV so all consumers can be on alert???

Maybe a helpful guide, points to look for, how to approach the problem in an effective way - that would help everyone with their new purchase in resolving this problem
