Here's my question-my brother works at an NTB and he said that when they replace tires on a Lexus, it was his understanding that they had to also replace each of the TPMS parts on each tire which is around $80-$120 a tire. This had just come up recently where he worked. He wasn't sure about any other vehicles. Yikes! That's another $400 when you change the tires-is that correct??
This is the first time I've had the TPMS on a vehicle and I'm completely ignorant about the changing of the tires and what happens with the TPMS at that point......help, please.
You can re-use the special valve with new tires. Provided of course that it's not damaged.
You have a brand new vehicle. Are you planning to change tires already?

Funny! No, but it did concern me when my brother told me that because with all the miles I put on a vehicle, I have to change every couple of years. I thought that sounded odd - having to replace them when you replaced the tires (as well as expensive!)

Maybe that was just because it was a Lexus and a "Premium" cost that comes along with their service
That has been my experience with a regular service apt with my fams Lexus RX330, Acura's, Infiniti's etc etc
Routine stuff is always much more expensive, at least at our Premium mega dealer, who knows, im just speculating
The TPMS valve from talking to the Honda folks isn't too expensive. It's more than that regular one by a few bucks more. There is a TMPS sensor that controls it but I don't think you need to replace that each time you switch tires. My mini cooper has tire sensor but it also has run flats! Talk about changing those out...ouch.
