I don't know if the previous generation had a passenger-side key lock or not. I'm a little bummed that the 2007 doesn't have one. I do a lot of water sports and don't like to carry the electronic key with me when I plan on getting wet.

I'll get over it but it's an inconvenience.

Yup, quite a few newer cars don't come with passenger side key openings.

It's an anti-theft thing. I think the Britts thought it up, but it's spreading as insurers all around the world want the new vehicles to be harder to steal.

It also is a money-saver for the manufacturer. Add up the savings on millions of passenger door lock assemblies!

I had a 97' Taurus. Before I sold it I noticed that the passenger door's lock was damaged. Someone tried to brake in.

In a good note, the 07' CRV comes with a one piece key (remote is built in) and is easy to carry.

They were going to do that on the Pilot in 2003 and change at the last min (probably because people were not ready for it.)

The "lock" on the passenger side of a Pilot is just a key switch, not a mechanical lock.
