Ok my friend who knows nothing about cars just spent about $25K on a new Kia Sorrento. After I stopped laughing at how much she paid, it seemed to be a decent SUV. Not to mention the 10 year warranty!!!

My only ? is how would the V hold up to the V6 power in the Kia?? I know the Kia is more of a "real truck" than the V, and thus weighs more, but what do you think as far as 0-60, and 1/4 mile times, and real street use?? (Both AUTOMATICS) Any links to published acceleration times for either?

Thanks

I considered the Sorento when I was shopping. I couldn't get past the extremely poor mileage, and the unknown reliability.

ya the Kia Sorrento is no mistake vehical like the other Kia suv they have....

Its a verry rugged looking vehical, which i havent heard bad about...

Engine Type: DOHC V-6; 3.5 liter

Horsepower: 192 @ 5,500 rpm.

Torque: 217 foot-pounds @ 3,000 rpm.

EPA Mileage: 15 city; 18 highway.

crv:
Horsepower @ rpm (SAE net) 160 @ 6000

Torque (lb.-ft. @ rpm) 162 @ 3600

EPA Mileage: 22 city; 26 highway

Id say overall performance vs economy wise, CRV kicks the Sorrento's booty...

but Sorrento is no shit box 4 sure :)

The Kia top of the line model has 192 HP and weighs 4317 lbs.

The CR-V top of the line model has 160HP and weighs 3287 lbs.

I'm guessing the V would still beat out the Kia.....thats a huge difference in weight for only 32HP.

I'm not really sure of the appeal of the Kia except for the 10 year warranty. If memroy serves me its smaller on the inside than the V with less cargo room and gets a lot worse Gas milage. Maybe someone here can explain the appeal.....even Edmunds lists it as editors most wanted but I just don't get it.

The sorento has a nice shape. If it had a Honda badge and engine it would be perfect. I test drove one when i was considering a vehicle. I was not impressed with the interior nor the drive. and if I am going to buy anything other than a honda, the vehiclel has to really really impress me. and they have to do it with more than a 10 yr ltd waranty that i most certainly will use

Just to clear things up the 10 year warrenty is a limited powertrain warrenty, not a bumper to bumper one.

kia's certainly need the full 10 years of powertrain warranty...they suck big time

Yeah I figured the weight difference would offset the horsepower defficiency of the V. Anybody have any official acceleration times??

looks like the kia beat the v in acceleration by a whole second (dont think this is official thoe, but a test)

check it out for your self...

two things. 1. this article is from 2002 and 2. those 0-60 times are awfully fast for some of those vehicles. Pilot 0-60 in 7 secs. thats faster than than some Iintegras.

well i strongly doubt the year will make a difference, since the 02's are the second gens and to my knowledge the engine nor the tranny has been changed till present...

im pretty sure a pilot can do 0.60 in 7 seconds, with that 3.5l v6 :)
dads 92 dodge caravan does 0.60 within 12-13 seconds (3.0l v6)
sure the pilot can do it with current technologys ;)

Mau108 I was so perturbed about your article and the suggestion that a Pilot Can do 0-60 in 7 secs that I had to do my research. The closest time to your article that I found was 8.6 secs. Then I realized that you MAY have been referring to Kilometers because you are in Canada. Now a Pilot straight from the Honda Factory can do 7 seconds from 0-60km no problem. But a normally aspirated and factory tuned Pilot WILL NOT do 0-60 MILES per hour in 7 seconds. Hey thats even faster than the Acura MDX
Show me another article with that 0-60miles per hour time and I will eat my shoe

Pilots do high 7 second 0-60 (mph). I went against one from a roll with my 02 5-speed V and it was very even. This is consistent with low 8 second estimates for a 5 speed V. A pilot will not do a 7 second flat 0-60 mph. That does not mean the Pilot is not respectable though.

Thanks everybody for the input.

I appreciate your resourcefullness.

But is there a DEFINITIVE SOURCE out there than some vague, rounded-to-the-nearest-second off road magazine. Surely somewhere out there is a test of the 0-60 times on road of a 2nd Gen CR-V, and a Kia Sorrento, both with AUTOMATICS. I'd even settle for different car mags at different locations, with different weather. Just SOMETHING official.

ANYone, ANYone??

Thanks

I believe that the Pilotis a great vehicle. hell its a Honda. But there are very few SIVs that can crack 7 - 8.0 sec barrier. Why in the world would i buy a sport car for 35k when i can buy the Pilot doing sub 8. i would have to see a stock Pilot personal doing it to believe that .

cuz the pilot is not built for racing :)
sure it can doo 0-60 in 7 seconds, but what are the chances of you racing it on a track and u being in it alone?

sports car, is stuck to the ground and doesnt carry alotta weight :)

ya sure u can race the pilot, but the slightest turn or popping of tire will cause it to flip, god knows how many times :S (dont wanna think about it hehe)

I really don’t want to hug the thread but Maul108, I wonder if you’re serious of yanking my chain. I love Honda cars to death. But I have to accept the limitations. Now A NSX type R. from the Factory can only do 0-60 in 5.6secs and is about 1/3 the weight. But yet you say the Pilot is capable of 7.

And are you suggesting that any other SUV that is capable of 7 secs is built for racing and if not, are dangerous? If So I really must warn BMW and Benz

And if you race a Pilot on a quarter mile track (where one usually does 0-60 and quarter mile testing), the chances of rolling over are NOT much greater than your typical sports car.
