On 9/27 we bought a 4WD EX in Silver for $250 below sticker near Pittsburgh, PA.

But, the only reason we got anything off sticker was because we were at a dealer an hour away from home to pick up one of the last 06 SE models when we spied the 07s. We told the salesman (nice guy) that we would not buy an 07 an hour away from home without something off. Unlike the 06 SE, we could buy an 07 right in our own backyard. With month end, the saleman did not want to lose the deal he had already put in his pocket.

The 07s had just come off the truck. If we had been an hour earlier, we would not have seen them before buying the 06.

I got my EX (royal blue) for $650 below sticker and they threw in the fog lights for good measure.

I got $1,205 off MSRP on an EX-L Glacier. It was tough, most dealers would not come off sticker, I found a dealer that had not sold any yet, and planned my attack.

MSRP $25395
-905 discount (half of the 1800 invoice profit)
Doc Fee was $599 - high, but i got them down to $299 (taken off from MSRP)
$24,190
Tax $1,487.34 6%
Title $18
Georgia MVWR Fee $3
Total $26,297.34

I love the vehicle so far. You guys have to stop paying Sticker,
REFUSE IT! Don't just pay it because you think everyone else is paying MSRP.

Ordered a Tea Green EX tonight at Motorworld in Wilkes-Barre Pa. Started out with offer of sticker - $10,900 for my '02 EX. Told them I had a better offer by $700 from another dealer and they agreed to take $500 off sticker and increase my trade value to $11,500. Took the deal but have to wait 2-3 weeks for delievery. Oh .... and the Blue EX on the lot had those crummy Bridgestones on it. Hope mine arrives with the Continentals .....

Sounds like you came fairly well! Congrats! Yes, I saw the Bridgestone tires as well and wasn't as crazy about those as the Continentals! I've ordered one -not sure which tires it will come with.............

I know that the under-carriage insulation is playing a big role in it, but the Comtinental's on my '07 are nearly silent on asphalt. On concrete, theres a muted whine. I would have to drive a V with the Bridgestone's on the same stretch of road to give an accurate comparison.

Overall,I am pleased with the continentals. They have a very sure feel and provide very good grip, even in the rain. They don't labour around corners.

Of the 9 or so v's on the dealer lot last Friday, they have just one left. From what my salesman told me, they have all ben going for sticker, so I really feel even better about my new truck.

YES. Gap insurance is for cars that depreciate really fast. Your Honda CR-V won't. In fact, if you total your V, you may even make a profit... Try that with the average domestic car.

Check with your insurance company - they may be providing replacement coverage for the 1st year or 2 anyway.

Red EX-L 2wd on order for 24090 + 89 doc fee + county taxes.

This is through AAA, which beat carsdirect, CarPerks, and SamsClub by around 600-1000 depending on the dealer involved (and how high the doc fees got).

They tried to make it up by charging really high rates for accessories, but I'm going to get my roof rack, body side molding and hitch through other sources and install them myself.

I just picked up a Japanese Green Tea EX AWD today for $22810+$595 dest charge+tax+docs in NYC. So, $1240 off of MSRP. I'm told that people are paying MSRP or higher with the usual deal being struck at $200-$500 below MSRP.

Was able to get a few quotes for $23595 (including the destination charge) in NJ but went armed with a quote for the large high volume local dealership and got some more off the price.

(More on my process)
We're having our first child this month and I was looking at the Element for years with high hopes for the 2007 and SC models. But, when I read and saw what they had done to the CR-V I knew that it was a much better fit. I read that in Japan they were aiming it at the "cool moms" and that new sleeker look with the better safety ratings (IIS) made it ideal.

More comfort, quiet and more seating than the Element and miles ahead of the 2006 CR-V. The nice thing too is that no one seems to have one around me and I see older CR-Vs all the time.

EX with wheel locks, pinstripe, and splash guards: $243xx. I got a couple hundred off the MSRP.

It's VERY hard to do it in Central Florida because they sell these before they get them off the truck. The few that don't sell off of the truck are sold within a day... maybe two at worst for them.

Just bought a 4WD EX-L (no Nav). After no less than five dealers who wouldn't budge much below MSRP, I had a stunning experience. I was looking for a 2WD EX (no leather). At Beach Honda in North Miami, I spent a couple of hours with a really pleasant sales crew negotiating what I thought was an excellent deal: $21,136 plus $699 "dealer fee" before tax, tag, etc, and $10,725 in trade for my 2003 V w/52k miles on it. That still put them at just below a 4% profit, a very equitable deal, considering that the MSRP brings the dealer over 10% profit! (I negotiated the car price first, then the trade. I know I could have gotten a bit more in trade, but not much! I got up to walk twice before we settled on that)

When we started the negotiations, I had said my primary color choice was white. They said the only white they had was an EX-L. I told them I'd love to have it but couldn't afford the $2k bump. The salesman told me he had a Glacier Blue coming in and, since that was my second choice I said fine.

After closing the deal (and even getting better financing from them that I had obtained through comparisons on line), I looked at the sales contract. It specified NEW 2007 CRV Taffeta White. I thought, "no way", but when I got home, I checked the VIN on the web. Sure enough, it's a new, Japan-built EX-L,4WD!

I honestly thought they'd entered the wrong VIN by accident on the sales form and wrestled with myself all day whether to tell them or just press the issue, since I had a signed purchase order.

I decided on honesty, but, when I told them they said, "Oh no, we made the deal on the EX-L! So, again, here's the deal:

$21,136 + $699 = $21,835 on a car that Consumer Reports says the dealer's cost AFTER HOLDBACK REIMBURSEMENT is $23,857 !!!

Now I'm a nervous wreck, waiting for delivery. It's the old "if something seems too good to be true, it usually is" syndrome. But I can't imagine what can go wrong. The contract specifies NEW, not DEMO or USED. The Finance guy guaranteed the car would have less then 10 miles on it. It's coming off the boat from the manufacturer. I'm keeping my fingers crossed and waiting before dancing in the street!

Regards,

dreese9859

nprguy, if that deal is true, then I hate you and I'm sure everybody else here who bought one does. Anyways, I hope you get what your VIN says it is! That would be awesome. :)

Dear dreese et al,

It WAS too good to be true (see three posts back)--- The folks at Beach Honda finally discovered the error of their ways. Even though I had the buyers' contract for the EX-L 4WD, I decided not to pursue the issue through small claims court or arbitration. However, I did apply serious pressure to the management and they assuaged my frustration by throwing in after-market leather for a third of the retail cost at $250.

I thought that was equitable, and I'm still very pleased with the amount I'm paying for an EX (below 4% profit for the dealer).

Best,

Paid $20650 (inc. dest) for CR-V LX AWD in Glacier Blue from a very large dealership that wanted to move stock before the end of the year. Plus $300 documentation fee, which is slightly higher than average in the area. All in all, $22066 with tax (5%), fees and registration.

Paid $23600 for an EX with AWD, $761 over invoice. I could have got one for $23400 but my wife didn't like the color so the dealer had to do a swap with another dealer who had some "packs" on the car.

Live in southern California and got a bunch of different quotes that wouldn't go below MSRP (26,595 incl. dest) for the EX-L 4WD (no navi) in Royal Blue (which has been a hard model to find here--for some reason plenty of other colors or with navis).

Went to a smaller bourgie dealership and they wouldn't budge on 25,677 (even though I was gonna pay cash on the spot--they had already added a bunch of crap I didn't need like Xzilon coating).

Then went to a larger dealership got it to 25,300 (including roof racks, splash guards, wheel locks, and cargo tray). Probably cause I brought my mom. :)

she's scary.

This was my first new car purchase (and first Honda! Although, I used to drive a '92 Acura Legend, so not really?) and I was scouring the web on how to avoid getting cheated. I'm still not sure if I made out good--but at least it's better than what it could have been if I hadn't done some research.

Regards,

I talked to five or six dealers in the Miami area, and Beach Honda had the best price *by far*.

None of the other dealers were willing to go below the "Costco member price", and Maroone Honda was the worst; their "best price" was about $500 MORE than the no-haggle "Costco member price" which other dealers were willing to sell the CR-V for.

At Beach Honda we got a 2007 CR-V LX for about $21,000 out the door (tax, documentation fees, registration, new license plates, etc, etc), which is about $2,000 less than the best price I got at other dealers.

And we had the same experience on financing, they offered better financing with American Honda Finance that what I had arranged in advance through LendingTree :)

The salespeople we talked to, and the sales manager, were all pleasant, and we definitely recommend them to anyone in the Miami, FL area looking for a new Honda.

I requested an out the door price for an EX-L 4WD from 7 dealers NC and SC. Got the lowest price from SC $26,700 out the door this included mud guards, pinstripe, and wheel locks.
We drove down 3 days later and bought it with no hassle. The final price was just as they quoted.

Haven't seen a lot of posts on prices for Nav models, so . . .
got a Glacier Blue EX-L AWD with Nav for $27,641 including destination and protection package (wheel locks, door edge guards, cargo tray, and splash guards) but before taxes and license. About $750 over invoice+ad fee as best I can figure ($26,642 for invoice incl. destination, $249 ad fee, $150 or so cost on accessories as best I can estimate = $26,891). How does that compare to other prices for the Nav models.

I'm leasing, so I didn't get anything off the price, but I got an extra 3 months of XM (in addition to the 3 that come with it) and a year of free oil changes... since I come 1 1/2 hours to get my oil done anyway, and no labor charges on aftermarket installs (remote start, bluetooth and fog lights) when I get them.

They also waived all charges for dings and dents and miles over on my last car because 10 minutes after I turned it in, my friend bought it off lease. They gave her oil changes and covered the taxes and extended the warranty for another 5 years or 50K miles.

What does leasing and paying MSRP have to do with each other? Negotiating cap price is a huge part of getting a good lease deal. Having said that lease deals, regardless of cap, on the CRV are pretty poor right now as MF's are pretty high.

Do you know how to calculate your lease payment? Do you know what your residual and MF are? If not I'm pretty sure you got taken for a ride...dealers love to lease cars to people who only want to talk payments and not cap, term, residual and MF.

I traded in my 02EX for an 07EX. The dealer did not take anything off the MSRP sticker price but gave me $13,500 for my 02V, which is almost 60% of the 02 MSRP. I thought this was a pretty decent deal.

I drove up to Georgia and picked up a Red CRV EXL Navi (no, not AWD). Absolutely no hassles and no hard sell. Of course, I had an approved check in hand, and no trade in to worry about. No dealer options installed. MSRP is $27395. Hassle free price was $26107. Add $329 dealer prep/service fee, and $18 title/lemon law fee for an "Out the door price" of $2654. I will, of course, have to pay sales tax in FL when I register it here.
Overall, I am very happy with that. They were up front about the extra dealer fee, and title fee before I drove up there. No extra hidden charges or hard sell on extended warranty (although they let me know it was available). I got a demo, took a test drive, full tank of gas, and a quick tour of the dealership, and signed all paperwork in less than 1.5 hours.

From what my salesman told me, they have all ben going for sticker, so I really feel even better about my new truck.

...and you believed the salesman? They wouldn't make the money they did if they started each conversation with "if you smile, you can get $2000 off sticker." With every vehicle I've purchased, I start my negotiations at invoice. Then we go up from there, "throwing in" the accessories/optios I'd have bought anyway. I figure 50% of retail price for the accessories.

I bought a Tea Green EX-L AWD on Oct 31 for $25,700, OUT THE DOOR, with roof rack and trailer hitch/harness installed. It wasn't my best negotiation, but I didn't want to spend a lot of time with it. I walked in, test drove, walked in two days later and said "this is the price you're going to give me." All in all, $1400 lower than full retail. Like I said, not my best... best was ordering/buying a 95 Accord EX-L on Dec 31, 1994 at $5 over invoice, out the door. I spent a year screwing with that salesman... hehehe.

As a new member also (but lurking for months) I have seen repeated where new members ask a question but fail to sometimes provide the basic information that will actually help others to answer your questions. Please take the time to do the following:

1. Add your "location"
2. Put your vehicle in your signature

These two basics will help everyone else provide better information to you.

I just posted something about diesel in another thread, then read this. So, why are you so excited about diesel? I must be missing something. It doesn't get better gas mileage per dollar once you factor extra cost of diesel at the pump. It's louder. You probably have to plug it in to an outlet on cold winter nights/days. It may pull more, but the wheelbase and wheel width are so small, should we be pulling heavy trailers? Prob not. It'll cost $1000s more off the lot. Oh, and as I said elsewhere, diesel pumps are harder to get to in USA cities. Quite a few gas stations don't even have one, those that do have maybe 1 or 2, and they are shared with gasoline users.

Try this. Until diesel is available in the USA for the CR-V, only refuel your vehicle at a diesel pump. I don't mean put diesel in your car, I mean drive to the gas station that has the diesel pump, not the one that is closest or has the best price. When you get to the station, wait for the pump that has the diesel also, don't just drive to the pump that's first available. Do that for a year or two, then you'll see what I'm talking about.

So, what am I missing about diesel? If I had a large truck, I'd get diesel. But a super small SUV?

EPP, Pro Pack, etc...: $24,900

I got it for $21,100 ;) But with the doc fee ($50), taxes (8%), registration (app. $60), etc... it ended up to $23,600 altogether.

I think I got a good deal, even if it is a base model. Nothing too special really, but least I got the nifty rubber cargo mat for the back. My bf did an awesome job haggling with dealers. For $500 more I could've went with another dealer who had the same thing only with the Black Interior, a roof rack and what looked like darker tinted windows. But with the dealer who had the cheaper model, we finally got them to budge when he went back and demanded he wanted to speak to a different manager than whom our dealer reported to.

No idea why you think diesel is only available at truck stops? It is at almost every normal car station around gere. Diesel pumps are right beside the unleaded. (Since the range of the diesel option is so great, you don't have to fill up near as often either)

No idea why you think diesel is only available at truck stops? It is at almost every normal car station around gere. Diesel pumps are right beside the unleaded. (Since the range of the diesel option is so great, you don't have to fill up near as often either)

x2.

Almost all gas stations in my area have diesel available. Don't forget this diesel has a turbo, which is easier to mod than a gas engine.... Hello chipped diesel!!!

. . . for an 07 EX-L 2WD??? Invoice is $ 22,936 & $595 Destination Fee!!

You'd better ditch the gun you held to the dealer's head!!

No typo cuz........I worked at the dealer for 10 years and did NOT pay dest. fee. I also got it less than sticker..salesman miss quoted and signed the price quote.....So it pays to hold on to some things. When I was called and told the vehicle was there we went to pick it up and they said.....OH by the way we screwed up and quoted you wrong. I was told it would be invoice plus dest fee. My wife and I are on a strict budget and could not swing a higher payment so after 6 hrs and alot of jawjacking we walked out happy as heLL and love our new v.

Ordered a black 2WD EX, have a signed sales contract for an OTD price of $23,899. Sales guy says it's being built in two weeks, should be here (central NC) by mid-April. No VIN yet.

Invoice for the 2WD EX seems to be $21,961, working backwards from my OTD gives me a sales price of $22,745. Sticker is $23,445, so they didn't come down a huge amount, but I can live with that, given the supply/demand issues of the CR-Vs.

Another dealer was willing to give me an OTD price of $23,800 on a white 2WD EX that they had in stock, but my wife has a white van, and I preferred the black CR-V. Both of us tend to keep our vehicles for a looooong time, so we figured the extra hundred was worth it to get the color we wanted.

Not the best deal, maybe, but not the worst either.

Hey guys,

Me and my dad were so close to being members of the Honda SUV World today. we thought we had a deal worked out on what they would give us for our trade in (an '03 Jaguar XJ8 Vadenplas w/ Navi). The deal was supposed to be our car + $7k = 2007 2WD Honda CRV (Silver or blue) EX-L w/ Navi. But after we came back with the Jaguar, they called around and said they were only getting around $15k for the Jaguar from other Jaguar dealers (they had originally anticipatd $18,200 minimum). So everything kind of went to hell. The sales guy was showing me that they were charging $28,030 or something like that for the CRV we wanted. It was the only one on the lot with 150 miles on it.

I was wondering if any of the following people would mind sending some contact info for the dealers from whom they got their prices. After reading through what people were paying in this thread, I was hoping to pay $26,000 for the 2007 CRV EX-L w/ Navi since I've seen the 4WD grabbed for 27,300.

I was thinking of calling around and trying to get written quotes sent to me for matching purposes, or if who you bought it from isn't too far away, actually going down to get it.

We got a Ex-L Navi AWD for $27,300. My first Honda and am very impressed. I have always heard about Honda reliabilty. The dealer had sold every LX and EX that they could get their hands on. But the Navi's were just not selling as well in our area. SO it worked in my favor. Take care
Neal

After waiting for a Black on Black EX-L AWD w/Navi (apparently it's hard to find, was looking for a couple of weeks), I finally found it this past Saturday and got it for $27,241 in Fremont, CA. After taxes/tags, it was around 29,500. When I first saw it, it was covered in this plastic paint stuff, the electricity was disabled and it only had 1 mile :) I love it

We got our 07 CR-V AWD w/Nav in silver for $27,795.00 with no waiting list in PA. We love it.

Hey guys, what's your opinion on this:

As previously discussed, we have the exact vehicle in-stock that you have specified and it is ready to be parked in your garage or driveway: 2007 Honda CR-V EX-L 2WD with Leather & Navigation.

I am pleased to offer you any new, factory equipped 2007 Honda CR-V EX-L 2WD with Leather & Navigation for the special internet price of 25,905.00.

2007 Honda CR-V EX-L 2WD with Leather & Navigation

$ 25,905.00 Internet Discounted Price of Vehicle
$ 595.00 Factory originating destination/freight charge
$ 100.00 Processing Fee
$ 1,330.00 5% MD Sales Tax
$ 210.00 Tags, Title and MD Registration

$ 28,140.00 Total Guaranteed "on the road" Price (assuming Maryland residence Registration & Tax)

Hey guys, what's your opinion on this:

I was hoping to pay around $500 less than this cause the best I was seeing was $27,300 for the AWD EX-L w/ Navi, and by figuring it was a $1200ish option, so $26,000ish is what I was expecting to pay. But I didn't consider the dealer fees which in this case, are around $700

I went with carsdirect.com and two dealers had gotten back to me based on my zip. Maybe I'll submit some different zips so I can get a bigger area than what I got for this zip. Ok, so I should be looking to shave off $500 to $750? Does anyone think I can shave off more, or is this the best I should expect if I'm looking to buy real soon.

Hey Guys,

Thought I'd give an update for anyone else looking and/or just interested. My new DC Area low for the 2007 CRV- 2WD EX-L w/ Navi is:

Maryland Sale 5%
Price $24,800.00
Freight $550.00
Total $25,350.00

State Tax $1,267.50
DBL Tax $25.35
Processing $349.00
Tags $180.00

Total Transaction Cost $27,171.85

This was e-mailed to me as a first offer too so I'm wondering if there might even be further room to negotiate. Before, I was thinking of just trying to get OTD w/ Tax and tags and all for under $27k but now I'm thinking I could pull $26,500.

Let's see though because one other dealer in the area said they couldn't even match the other price I had posted earlier which was $28,140 out the door. This price is $1k lower.

What do you guys think?

That sounds like a great price for a 2007 2wd with Navi, does it have any miles on it? I am guessing the price is from a Virginia dealer because the processing fee is usually about $100 in MD.

I just purchased a Royal Blue 2wd EX-L with Navi in the Baltimore area and my negotiated out the door price was $27,492.

Thanks for the response netryeder. I think $26,500 might be a bit too extreme, but I think an OTD price of $27kish is realistic. And I would prefer to go with an MD person to save the extra $250 in dealer processing fees.

If you wouldn't mind, I'd love to see any of your paperwork that you took in or received w/ your final price (of course cross out any personal info) just so I have more hard prices to show.

I wouldn't mind going with your dealer too if you recommend them. If it helps you get a referral credit, maybe some cash or something. $27,492 is my upper limit, but if I can can do right under $27k, I'll be a happy CR-Ver.

Maybe we can meet up on 95 North and do some racing in our CR-Vs. We'll just have to slow down to avoid the state troopers that hide near Rt. 100.. and Rt. 175.. and Rt. 32.. and Rt. 216... and near the 695 spilit... *sigh

I used Edmunds to email out to 6 dealers. They all answered with MSRP ($23,445.00), except Stockton Honda. 2WD EX (non-L) was $22,558.60 (excluding taxes/license, inc. destination charge). However, then when the guy checked, he found the car was not in stock. I told him I'd wait if the quote was still good. Truck with my car showed up the next day. Supply and demand, fairly straightforward. Only hard part is figuring out exactly WHEN either demand will relax, supply will increase, or both. A good bet would be late summer, and I doubt much will change sooner than that.

It's never a bad idea to wait on buying a car until dealers have an abundance of last year's models they want off their lots. But that could be a while in the case of a popular new model. My local Honda guy was discounting brand new Accords by almost $3k below sticker as recently as a week ago, he had a TON of them.

I ended up with $1,200 under MSRP for my EX - this forum was very helpful in determining what the going rate was... others did better than me on the bottom line but... like I said in my previous post - supply is down so the dealers feel like they have more bargaining power... they had to bargain with a dealer in Watertown, NY to get me a Green Tea colored one (they would have met my price if I bought the silver one on their lot), Watertown is about 2.5 hours away .... meaning there will be a bunch of miles on it when I get it TODAY at 4:00pm. Any Canadians here? I just bought my EXL + Navi yesterday.
The best price I could get from a broker was $800 off MSRP.
The dealership wouldn't move off MSRP. I did get the accessories that I wanted for free: Fogs, rear cargo cover and rear cargo tray and they threw in wheel locks and a full tank of gas (whoopee). I also got $500 from Honda's graduation program. So basically, I saved like $1500 or so. Total is like $38905 CDN. After taxes, that's like just under $44k.

I've thought about purchasing one from the US since I'd save a few thousand $$, but after doing some research, it's a big hassle to go through Canada Customs and Transport Canada.

I paid $21,310 for the LX AWD model. I didn't do alot of price comparisons becuase I was looking for a specific model and color and was able to get it with less than a month wait. I did a ton of research before buying, looking at everything available in that class. The CRV won out in every category so for me it was an easy decision. To be honest I don't know if this was a "good price" or not, but since I got everything I was looking for, it was a good price for me.

I had to pay around USD 1200 extra to get it within a week, other wise there is a 3 month waiting period.

The V is directly imported into India hence the long wait.

With the extra premium a top of the line (no nav, no sunroof, no reverse sensors, mirror mounted signal lamps, abs, ebd, leather, 6 CD mp3/wma stereo) auto V costs around USD 57,300 including registrations, taxes, etc.

There is only 1 model in India, in auto and manual variants.

Edit: Forgot to mention, we get only AWDs here. Mine is the new red pearl; I think it is called Tango Red in the US.

You should have sold the two vehicles privately. If you ask me you got hosed pretty bad on the trade in. :? Not only would that have taken time but I would have had to drive it while I was selling it. Increasing the miles all along and increasing the chance of an accident during that period. Blue book on the explorer in its condition is about $2000.00. Now lets talk about the Jetta. It needs a new tranny, catalytic converter, and it has a battery drain issue that even VW dealership couldn't figure out. The front bumper is pretty much glued on to keep it attached and the tires are falling apart. It has scratches and dents all over the sides. Add the 128,000 miles and the Jetta blue book is about $1200. I would say we made out pretty well.. They gave us more then these 2 pieces of garbage were worth.

New to the forum. Thought we'd share our recent experience.

We bought our '07 Borrego Beige Metalic/Ivory EX-L AWD at Castle Honda in Morton Grove, IL on 4/28/07 for $25,200 +T+T (Chicago tax is a real killer). We used the NADA site to get "dealer invoice" pricing and obtained an online quote of $25,200 from the only dealer that responded. Unfortunately, they were several hours away so we did not buy from the online source. Castle was reluctant to lower their price from "sticker" until we showed them a printout of the online quote.

First Honda we've ever purchased. The overall buying experience was very pleasant. We would recommend Castle for anyone in the Chicagoland area.

As with any major purchase, be sure to do your homework beforehand.

I bought my 2WD EX-L with NAV for $25,064 on 5/4/07. This did not include dealer processing charge ($99), freight ($595), sales tax ($1,309) and tags ($12). I purchased it at O'Donnell Honda in Ellicott City, MD. They had the model I wanted in stock and I offered $150 over invoice. Five minutes later, we had a deal. It was the easiest car purchase I've ever made.

I worked a bit with O'Donnell's. They had great prices and an easy going staff though I ended purchasing from Sport Honda in Silver Spring instead. Got the Glacier Blue Metallic 4WD EX-L w/ Nav (included wheel locks, pinstripes, door edge guards and front mud flaps) for $26,027 - $28,004.55 OTD after freight, processing, tax and tags.

07 silver exl awd blk leather with navi with spoiler installed and destination included. $26,900 the only extra charges were tax, plates, and title.

I called 14 local Honda dealers. I knew the exact color and options I wanted. Told each I was calling 14 dealers and was going to let them duke it out for the best price. Said I was ready to buy. Worked out pretty good I think.

This is my first post to the site, also my first Honda purchase. Picking up our CR-V Monday from IA City. Bought Silver w/black int. EX-L AWD for 25,524 including destination charge, $1071 off of MSRP. Deal was made through internet quote request, had offers from list to 1071 off list.

I received a follow up offer from the first dealer I had visited, $200 below the best offer I received. This was after I emailed the salesman to let him know I accepted a quote from another dealer (I cc'd the sales manager and the owner) When I decided this was going to be my next car, I asked the salesman if there was any room to negotiate and was told that they do not have to discount the MSRP. After my email, his response was that we "didn't sit down and talk price"????
I stuck by my commitment to the Dealer that gave me the best initial deal.

$300 doc fee? $599 doc fee? You people pay this?

I bitch about the $45 fee the dealers here in Albany, NY want and I usually get them to waive it. It used to be $20 which was tolerable.

This is only my second post but i came to this forum becuase I was thinking about buying a CRV for my mother. Well I now got one for her thanks to the info from this forum. I went to the dealership with the price of $500 above invoice for a glacier blue EX-L with NAVI 2WD as we do not need a 4WD car. We got to the dealership only to know that they don't have our car in stock and we would have to wait a week. So I agree to wait and do all the paper work now so i can secure the car. I got it down to a final price of $25,900 + tax + tags. After securing the deal, the manager came down and offered us a 4WD with the same specs for $1200 more. I said Hell No (in a polite way). 30 mins later of him persisting that a 4wd is a better car, We shook hands at a price of $26,500 + tags + tax for it. I agreed to that and All is well. As i look around its about 100 below invoice and I think i got a really really good deal.

I just wanted to say thanks for this forum and I will be around forum.

Glad you got such a great price, but I don't understand why they'd sell you a vehicle that's in high demand for $122 below invoice. The only reason I can think of is that they have a hard time selling a 4wd (that's not an off-road vehicle) in CA.

For anyone who doesn't know READ

Paint sealant is a different type of wax that they put on your car. IT IS A RIP OFF! You can buy an entire bottle of it yourself for less tha $30 bucks and apply it in less than an hour. BTW, a whole bottle of the stuff would be good for about 15-20 coats on your own vehicle. I hope this gives you an idea of how much of a rip off it is.

My favorite sealant:http://www.griotsgarage.com/catalog.jsp?&SKU=11088

Pinstriping can be done for cheap, real cheap.

There's an old biker dude around here that does most of the pin striping at area dealerships. He shows up on his old, beat-up full dresser Harley with leather bags full of paint and brushes. He HAND PAINTS with no tape, etc. and does an absolutely amazing job. You want fancy curves and swirls? No problem. About $100 per car. Color matching, no issue. Done in 30 minutes or less.

I'm not really too sure neither. I was very surprised that they gave it to me at that price. They kept telling me that AWD is in high demand due to its higher resale value than the 2WD. This was at the Honda of El Cerrito, they had 3 AWD with navi EX-L on the lot and only 1 2WD with navi EX-L coming on a truck. Maybe they do have a hard time selling AWD CR-V's. lol. If your in the bay area CA, then go to Honda of El Cerrito. haha.

The higher resale value is sorta correct. The CR-V with AWD costs $1200 more than 2wd and later on, it tends to be worth $1200 more than the comparable 2wd, no matter how old of a CR-V we are comparing. Of coarse, you are losing interest on the $1200, but that is minuscule. It's the one option that doesn't lose money and it is easier to sell the AWD one later on.

I can't get the dealers to come off MSRP much at all in Central Texas.

One dealer will take $500 off, but it's a 2WD EX-L w/ Nav and I really want AWD.

The only dealer within a 2 hr drive of me that I can find with what I want will only come down $200.

I guess I'll keep trying but with the 2007's in the build-out phase I don't know how much success I can really expect.

As in no more 2007s are being produced and what's on the lot or in transit is all the dealers will be getting. Is this incorrect or did I use the wrong term?

Racoon
06-07-2007, 12:28 PM
Well, if that's how you define the term, then the usage is correct.

However I question the source of your information. Honda sold over 19,000 CR-Vs in May (nearly 85,000 year to date), an increase of over 35% from the same time last year.

Honda has made no announcements about the 2008 CR-V, and I doubt we'll see any before September or October.

Do you really think Honda has 60,000 plus CR-Vs "in transit" or sitting on a lot somewhere waiting to be delivered in the US alone?

I'm sorry that your local dealers aren't willing to deal very much, but if they're selling every CR-V they get I can understand why.

I fired off some quote requests to dealers in the San Francisco Bay Area, and got the following range of "quotes" (this was for an EX-L AWD w/O nav)

$28,466.00 (I think this quote included some accessories)
$25,800.00
$25,489.00
$25,009.00

These seemed to be about 3-5% over invoice price, and included Destination charge of $595...

These would be plus:

2,150.28 sales tax(8.25%)(%$@*# California taxes)
261.75 lic/gov. fees
55.00 doc. fee

Seemed like a good price, based on reading this and other formus hosted by CRV Owners. Unfortunately we had something come up, that pushed our time back about 6 weeks, so this was sort of a false start....but it gives me a set of dealers to zero in on....

I Can HARDLY Wait...(even if is my wifes car  )

Woody99:
I paid 30k out the door with tax, etc included for an 07 EX-L 4WD with NAV, Spoiler installed, wheel locks, mud guards, free oil change. It also has floor mats & cargo cover but I think these are standard on EX-Ls.

This was at Capitol honda in san jose. I did quite a bit of shopping around and I could have got the same car (w spoiler) for 29,800 OTD at Serramonte Honda (should be close to you). The guy's name was Dimitry. All in total, there were 3 dealers willing to go 29.5 OTD without spoiler, and without Nav should be easier to get since they had more of them.

I found it easier personally to negotiate the price by making "out the door" offers, because I caught a couple dealers offering low quotes and then jacking up the price in extra charges such as destination etc. Although I paid a little more at San Jose...I did so for the service since they were willing to throw the spoiler on before I drove it off the lot, and this was the first dealer I've ever bought a car from that didn't try to sell me a bunch of things I didn't want like paint protection and warranties, etc.

The only problem with Out The Door or Drive Away prices is that include local sales tax, license and registration fees. Those all vary considerably from state to state, and even from county to county in some states.

Price for the vehicle before any accessories is a better measure IMO.

Yes that is true, but is of little use here in CA. I don't live close enough to another state (Nevada is 3+ Hours east, Oregon is 6+ Hours North, or Mexico to the south ;)) for another states taxes and fees to be a factor. Until a about 10 years ago, I could go to a different county with a better sales tax rate and get a break, but that has been resolved by laws taxing you at the rate in effect where you live not where you buy the car.
License and reg fees are the same statewide, so the OTD price is better IMHO, as it quickly exposes the dealer pumping up the fees to make a buck.

You missed my point. People from all over the US post responses, this is NOT a California only Website.

That's why it's important to post the actual purchase price of the vehicle before any local/county/state taxes/fees have been added, so you can accurately compare it to vehicles prices in California.

You need to compare apples to apples, and you can only do that if you compare the purchase price of the vehicle before any taxes or fees that are imposed by the state or county where the purchaser lives.

Make sense?

Exactly. OTD price in CA CA sales (and value?) tax is 7.9%. Oregon's is 0%. That doesn't tell the whole story for fees over a 5 year period though. Some states have no or low sales tax on a new car but hit you with other taxes and fees. Arizona's at 0% but one of the most expensive states.

I agree with you that for comparison purposes, prices quoted should be before "tax, & title".

However, I feel the Kiplinger chart is flawed. I live in Tempe, AZ & we have paid 8.1% Sales Tax on the three new vehicles (CR-V, Fit & CR-V) that we have bought over the past three years. (For those who itemize their tax returns, that amount can be claimed as a "tax paid" on Schedule A, but for those who don't, that money is gone.:( ) And yes, my eyes turn green with envy when I read of some folks paying less than $100/ year DMV fees - I didn't see a bill that low until my '85 Civic Wagon was 15 years old!!

Hmmm. Maybe that's why the article used New Hampshire (and not Arizona) as an example of a state with 0% sales tax but high fees over the 1st 5 years.

OK! OK! OK!....I give up

My Wife and I have been doing this "New Car" thing for about 6 weeks, and both are a little goofy at this point.

I agree that the Car price alone is the best global comparison, because of the different taxes and fees.

For my individual use, OTD is the best indicator of a "Deal-No Deal", now that we have decided on the CR-V, as I really am interested in the the number I have to write on the check.

Should have a deal, by the end of this month. Waiting at this point for the DMV to send us the Pink on our Jeep

Hey Friends!

Has anyone recently bought a 2007 CRV in the Seattle area? I am interested in what folks are paying for the 2007 AWD CRV EXL, with or without Nav (am considering both) in Western Washington.

Based on Edmunds and other web sites, it does not look like Seattle-area dealers are being aggressive in their pricing, like dealers in other parts of the country are as indicated in many comments here.

It would be helpful to hear where you bought your car and what you paid in Seattle. I am going shopping in about 30 days, so your info will be helpful!;)

Hi Guys,

I have just placed an order for an EX model with the Advance Safety Pack, also added the following options, Pearl - Nighthawk Black, Rear Tail Spoiler, Rear Areo Bumper (didn't like the look of the front so stayed with the standard front bumper) detachable Tow Bar, 19'' Blaze Wheels, Metal Gear Shift Knob, Sports Peddles, Auto Dipping Rear View Mirror, Boot Tray, Roof Rack, Chrome Fog Lights Surrounds and Mats.

The price over here in the UK, £30,700 at todays exchange rate about $61,000. I did mange a good discount $5,000 but will have to wait until the end of September for delivery.

The car is a 2.2 diesel model with a manual shift, I can expect 40ish mpg which is excellent given the size of the car.

Looking forward to getting the car and joining in with you guys on the forum here.

What is the Advance Safety Pack?

The Advanced Safety Pack consists of the following items.

Active Cruise Control
Collision Mitigation Braking System
Active Front Lighting System
High Intensity Discharge Headlights
Auto Leveling Headlights

Not sure if the stuff above is an option or included as standard on your side of the Pond. As for the price, we have a very greedy Goverment that enjoys squeezing us for as much stealth tax as they can. Imported cars are subject to 22% import duty and then Value Added Tax (VAT) is added at 17.5% and then of course the makers add a healthy amount of profit on top as we do not have the same freedom of information as you guys and are unable to find out the true cost of the car to the dealer.

We don't get any of those options here, and it isn't standard either :(

Americans can't justify paying big money for a small vehicle.

We may get these options offered over here to help justify they high prices, but when compared to the local competition CR-V is value for money with a very competitive price, lots of standard kit and a rock solid build reputation.

We finally decided it was time to do the deed and become '07 V owners. I had no luck getting a good price locally and had to expand the search. I got results at almost 200 miles out in three different areas-Richmond VA, Norfolk/Tidewater area, and Charlotte. Dealers in these areas were agreeable to giving $1200 off MSRP (West Broad Honda-Richmond, First Team and Hall Honda-Tidewater, Hendrick and Metro Honda-Charlotte), but Metro had our silver/gray 4WD EX-L in stock, so we went with them. We dealt with Cheyenne Groomes and I must say it was an extremely pleasant buying experience-great customer service. We settled most of the details via email last week and picked it up last Saturday. I had a nice drive back with plenty of time to get familiar with the XM radio. Our V already had wheel locks and splash guards installed but there was no extra charge. Here's the contact info for anyone interested:

Very little. I took printed price reports from Edmunds and Consumer Reports to back up my thoughts on what they should sell me the car for. They agreed and we were all happy. There were not any hidden costs or other silly games that dealers play. I was very suprised will their willingness to sell for this price. However, they had a large number of CRV's for the size dealer they are.

This is the first Honda I have owned since 1979. In the future, I will buy nothing but Hondas from no one but this dealer, if the CR-V and the service department turn out as good as sales department.

One week ago we picked up an '07 EX-L 2WD with Navi, cargo tray, front/rear splash guards in Glacier Blue for $25,600 plus tax & tag from Mobile, AL. MSRP 27,400. Was offered the price through internet haggling and offer was met by our local (Gulfport, MS) dealer, but local dealer couldn't get Glacier Blue. Mobile dealer shipped the V in from a Pensacola dealership. However, Mobile dealer would not budge on pricing for any other accessories or ext. warranty, so I will buy online. All in all, I'm a happy camper. Oh - and I LOVE the V, even though I'm missing a few amenities from my '04 Accord EX-L. I think the V is a blast to drive!

Mobile - Treadwell Honda
Gulfport - Pat Peck Honda

This is my 5th Honda (1 Civic, 3 Accords). We've also had 5 Acuras (4 Integras, now 1 '05 RSX Type S). Nobody has to sell us on a Honda.

Purchased a CR-V EXL 4wd for $300 over invoice on 7/14 and a Element LX 4wd with manual transmission for $300 under invoice on 7/21. I had two internet managers competing for my business via emails and as far as the trade-ins I received Kelly Blue Book value.

I live in the Asheville, NC area, but I drove 1.5 hours to Kingsport TN to get the best deal.

Edmunds.com lists the following numbers for Invoice prices...

2007 CR-V LX FWD $19,500
2007 CR-V LX RT4WD $20,277

Without knowing what your Tax, Title, and License fees are in your State there's no way to know if $21,500 is too low or not.

Don't work with them. My dealership in Lubbock, Tx. made me so mad I walked out. I negotiated what I thought was a great deal on my EX-L with Sean Summers at Newmyer Honda in Victoria, Texas. It was worth it to me to fly from Lubbock to Corpus, then rent a car to drive to Victoria. My husband was with me so we made it a vacation in Port Aransas as well. Contact Newmyer and ask for Sean. Tell him Rebecca sent you.

Some dealers will compete and give discounts. Some won't. Some will discount to a certain point and go no lower. Just spread your search out and decide how far you're willing to travel to save another few hundred bucks. The internet makes it quick and easy. We drove 200 miles to get another $400 off and it was well worth it. Had a nice drive back in the new V.

We got $750 under MSRP via the Costco plan on the LX. They were selling all of the CR-Vs at that price. As part of this Costco plan, they didn't charge us their $399 additional dealer prep fee that they try to get on all sales (as part of the contract, not the sticker markup). THEN we got them to throw in alloy wheels/tires package and a clear mask on the front, which they only did because they told us the price and the car we wanted already had those on them.

What dealership did you buy it from nangel? I'm on Long Island as well and am looking to purchase a CR-V but I am trying to find which dealer is best and is the most willing to make some deals! I'm dealing with Babylon Honda. They are extremely easy to deal with. I started out at Atlantic Honda and they wanted to give me $2,300 less for my trade in than Babylon gave me plus kept quoting me on a LX 4WD because that's what they had in stock! They wouldn't even listen to me, plus their sales manager is way too agressive for my taste. So I walked.

I just sent e-mails out to almost all the dealers on Long Island for quotes, and the lowest one I got I took into Babylon Honda (which is the closest dealership to me) and said beat this. And they did.

They also have a lot of CRV's in stock.

Good luck!

Here is what I paid for my 2007 EX-L/AWD

Dealer: Boch Honda (Rt. 1 Automile in Norwood, MA)
Price before TTL: $24,945.
Price after TTL: $25,257.
Dealer thow-in: 5 Free Oil Changes.

Very pleased with the experience. Excellent price for my trade-in, and since Boch Honda is a very, very high volume dealer, they offered the best price in the region IMO.

Well, I finally bit the bullet and told my wife she could have one. We were looking at various cars for me, because we needed a second car. But nothing worked out so I said, "Ok, you can pick again." She had chosen a 03 Protege5 before this. Now its mine. I know people gasp at the thought of anything other than a Honda or a Toyota, but the Protege5 has never given us a problem, except the usual upkeep.
First we looked at a Beige, tan interior (yuck), FWD. They wanted 24282 OTD.
I said give it to us for 23082 OTD, plus all season mats, and a cargo tray. Because another dealer quoted us 25077 for an AWD with the 2 accessories.
They said that THAT dealer is lying, there is no way he can give it to us for that price. Their final offer was 24282 with cargo tray. I told them no thanks.
Went and got my wife an AWD, white with gray interior, EX for the quoted price of 25077. Yeah, THAT dealer was lying.
I think we overpaid, but I was shooting for invoice on that car and I don't think that was gonna happen. Besides, my wife is happy, and a happy wife is always a good thing. Oh yeah, and my 5yr old daughter nickednamed the car Daisy as soon as we brought it home :-|.

Hi

Which dealership did you end up buying? And which was not flexible?

I bought an EX-L earlier this year from Luther Hopkins Honda and was pleased at the negotiation and buying (except the pressure to buy a protection package at the time of taking delivery - which I complained to Honda). I would however buy there again, they have good salesmen. Brookdale Luther Honda was good but not price competitive and the worst twin cities dealership was Richfield-Bloomington Honda. Later going throught a subsequent thread I found that a couple of other people had voted this dealership as the worst in the twin cities. But these things are not static and can change and hence my curiousity of latest experience.
thanks.

The FWD CRV EX we looked at was at Luther Brookdale Honda. The sales lady was nice and all, but they wouldn't budge on the price. Right after we told them no, we went to Buerkle Honda, and got the AWD CRV EX for their quoted price of 25077. The sales guy wasn't as energetic as the other sales lady, but everyone has a different approach. At least he wasn't a dick. He was actually quite nice. They did go through the extended plans with us, but they didn't pressure us.
We almost went to Richfield Honda to look at the CRVs, but a week earlier, before we were serious about looking at the CRVs, we looked at a 99 G20 at the used car sales, and I didn't like the experience there, so we didn't go back.

We didn't do any face to face negotiations at all. I did it all through the internet before going in. What did you pay for your EX-L?

Well, really interesting. My experience at Brookdale Honda and yours was seems similar. I too failed to have them budge on price at all. The young lady, I later learnt is a junior person (internet specialist) who reports to an older salesperson whom she has to consult for any negotiation and he does not budge at all. So even though Brookdale is the closest dealership to me and their service department is great, their sales people are just not wanting to make a deal. St. Cloud dealership is even worst because not only are they inflexible in price, but their quotes are way above any twin cities dealership. Hopkins Honda, the largest in MN gives good deals but there are a large number of salespeople who vary in how low they are willing to go.

I am in negotiations now for an AWD EX-L. I sent out the emails last night and will be buying today or tomorrow. MY local dealer has offered the CRV for $25,491. It comes with a standard protection package ( floor mats, cargo shelf, cargo mat, and mud flaps). I am hoping for at least another $500 off from one of the dealers in a 100 mile radius.
