Someone told me at work that if you replace spark plugs,
you should "reset the computer setting for spark plugs"
because it keeps track of how the gap changes as you drive the car.
And I wouldnt be getting maximum performance if I dont reset it.

I'm about to change my spark plugs.
Does anyone know if I really need to "reset my computer"?
If so, how the bloody heck do I do that?

Thanks,
g00ber

Can't say I've ever heard of this one.
Just go ahead and replace yor plugs, you'll be fine.

No need to "reset" the computer, it is constantly adjusting, and within a few hours of run time will be adjusted to your new settings...

I got 1999 with about 67k

And as far as I know, it was never changed, unless one of the shops did it for me during one of my service.

I've replaced the plugs on mine 3x's, 99 with 8x,000 miles...
Cheap maintenance, keeps the car running smooth...

Replace Spark plugs if u reach 110k. the 2nd gen is a NGK platinum
no need to worry.

nope u don't need to reset the computer...I never heard of that one before...I think that u should replace it with NGK Iridium.....way better

Basically, you disconnect teh battery for a couple of minutes or pull the main fuse, and the computer will start fresh with a clean slate...Not neccessary for normal maintenance items...
I put NGK Iridium's in my Eclipse a few months ago(got them real cheap), thought what the heck, I'll try them... Gotta say, so far so good, no noticable gains, but they seem to be a good plug.

Jasbus - Doesn't that mess up your radio, necessitating punching in your security code? Seems unnecessary to me.

That's the arguement... No need to do it on minor maintenance items...
Security code? what security code? Ditched the stocker within a few days of purchase

I finally did it last night! Got all my darn tools (5/8 deep socket, extension arm, antiseize, dielectric, torque wrench, etc) and did it. With the help of the internet and this website. Thanks guys!

I tried out the CRV last night and this morning. I don't feel a huge difference. This is what I feel.. when I press and let go of the gas pedal, it seems like it has more "lasting" power. Is that the difference I'm suppose to feel? or its just in my head?

By the way, my 99 manual says to replace with ZFR6-F11, but my old plugs are ZFR5-F11. Eh?

Anyways, here's some pics of my old plugs..

The new plugs are one step cooler... No biggie.
Your plugs looked fine, a bit worn out, but not bad....

Plugs are supposed to be replaced every 30,000 miles, see your Manual.

It makes sense to do it, they are easy to do and not expensive, and you can see how they burn out. If you have the money, use Platinum, then you can double the time, say every 60,000 miles. Cost is about 2.5 times a regular plug.

Yes, replace them as specified.

I meant, the plugs looked ok, as in for being used... I agree, change you plugs often... I do mine at 25k. Cheap, and it keeps the car running like silk.

I wanted to change my plugs to Denso Iridium but when I check the manual for my Cdn '03 V, I found out that it already comes with Iridium tip plugs (either from NGK or Denso). $$$ saved!! :D
