Hi guys just wanted to post a question on my 1997 Honda CRV SE. I'm not sure if this problem is a major one since Mechanic after Mechanic they are unable to find the cause of the problem. The problem is when driving in Traffic (stop and go traffic) the car makes a jerk especially when it doesn't come to a full stop and I accelerate. I would appreciate the assistance from anyone.

Thanks

Nice job of searching hyperaf. I've noticed the same thing and seen the link you posted to. I read basically the same thing in other threads as well so I don't worry about it. Kind of like the single brake clicking noise after changing directions, just a Honda thing and nothing to worry about.

. . . The problem is when driving in Traffic (stop and go traffic) the car makes a jerk especially when it doesn't come to a full stop and I accelerate.
All seven Hondas I've owned did / do that. A Honda tranny isn't 'NORMAL' in it's design, so it might be expected to behave a tiny bit different than all the rest out there. Hint: Honda built a billion motorcycle trannies before they figured out how to make it into an automatic.

If you punch it just before it can decide what gear it's going to downshift into, it may CLUNK into a gear. It's further exacerbated by the way the ECU shuts off the injectors as you're coasting (watch the tach). Engine suddenly 'wakes up' and finds tranny hasn't chosen a gear yet. CLUNK.

Normal for this generation of Honda.

Is this your first Honda with an automatic in it? Don't try any 'chemical fixes' just feed it the right fluids and live with it.

haha I tried that once while pulling a trailer - baaadd baddd sound BIG BANG

i think what causes this is wear in the gear train - as the gears and splines wear, there is more play - if you are coasting, all the play is taken up in one direction, when you hit the gas it is taken up and the result is a clunk.
