View Full Version : Pics & Short Story 2007 CRV In Motor Trend

I just got the new issue of motor trend magazine. On page 150 is a short story with 2 pics of the new crv. It looks like a stubby dull station wagon to me. The shifter is in between the front seats close to the dash. Doesn't stick out of the dash any more. The exterior looks very dull with a poor roof line angle. The car is basically what the other pics showed that were snapped in canada. No shot of the back of the car.
They also have a pic and short story on the new hyundai santa fe and that even looks better than the crv. I'm surprised and disappointed that the 2007 crv is more of a dud than I expected.

Agreed. I've seen the Hyundai SantaFe (2007?) in person a few times, up close, and it is very nice. No obvious design flaws on that one, a very cohesive design no doubt.
I predict that in 5 yrs Hyundai will be regarded as a quality vehicle, just like Honda is today, but with better warranty, better price/value, and most definitely better looks.

I agree JT but I don't think it will take 5 years.
In Canada at least the Santa Fe is less $$$ than the RAV4 and the CRV albeit in FWD guise (RAV4 and CRV do not come as FWD here) and the Hyundai offers the room of a Pilot plus the 5 year warranty. The interior is well appointed and on the whole it seems like a well assembled quality machine.
The Santa Fe --and Hyundai in general ---only need a slight shift in public perception and they simply have to improve the mpg.

Hey greyd,
Does the MT article say anything about the hoespower?
It has been posted elsewhere here that the 2007 will only have 166 Hp. If true, that (plus the Gabby Hayes front end and the shrinkage of the interior) will likely end my 30 years with Honda and 9 1/2 years with CRV.

Yes kw sluggo, 166 hp. Doesn't even seem like a believable article to me from motor trend. A few pages after this article is a comparo on the cx-7, rdx and the v-6 rav4. They placed the mazda 3rd because of better performance out of the other 2 overall. They would be ripping the crv after testing those 3 crossovers because they Are the chief competition. I am just surprised that the redesign that they have been so secretive about is looking like a dull misfire to me. I had thought I'd trade in my black 2002 ex on a black 2007 if I liked them. No way now and I am thinking about going with a closeout 2006 se if I can find one in black. The cx-7 and the rdx both require premium fuel which is a killer.

Not surprising to me. With each model redesign Honda tends to increase power only a little, so a 10 HP increase over the 2006 isn't unexpected.

They're always secretive about redesigns. It's the way Honda works.

so perhaps Honda went wild and crazy over the 1st gen to 2nd gen redesign?
and also at the gen 1 to gen 1.5

Not at all. The power increase with the 1999 CR-V engine was 20 hp (126 to 146), the power increase from 2001 to 2002 was 14 hp (146 to 160). The 2005-2006 CR-V is rated at 156 hp, but that's because the US Government required a change to the way HP is reported.
1998 to 1999 increase: 15.9%
2001 to 2002 increase: 9.6%
2006 to 2007 rumored increase: 6.4%

Yep. You all have to remember that the 166hp is on par with the competitions lower model motors, like the RAV4 and the Santa Fe's 2.8 which is slow as poop. When they bring that diesel here I hope it's got more HP than the gasser!
Have any of our old members the sudden rush of nOObs??? Soooo many new members!
