Anyone else holding their breath for 25+ mpg city driving on the 07 cr-v? Having said that....it has been rumoured that all trims will be available in either 2WD or RealTime 4WD. Anyone know if the 4WD suffers in fuel economy with the RealTime system? I know typical all wheel drive systems certainly consume more fuel, but is the Honda different?
Fuel economy will be the determining factor for me....been holding off from getting a "car" since March 2005....hoping that Honda can deliver respectable MPG numbers in the SUV/CUV segment (not brave enough to embrace the hybrid options....yet)!
You're the PHD. You should know.

I've always noticed that the biggest factors in fuel economy are vehicle weight, then aerodynamics, and powerplant.
Look at the current Accord. While the base 4-cyl model is EPA rated at 26 mpg, keep in mind that it weighs less than 3200 pounds and has a Drag coefficient of .30.
The current CR-V is about 100 pounds heavier, rides on bigger 16" rims and has the slipstream figure of a brick. I don't see Honda significantly reducing the weight or re-tuning the engine for more fuel economy for '07.

But if what we're hearing is true (sorry Rac!), it may be lower to the ground making it cut thru the air a little better.
I think it's likely to get 27mpg but real life driving might yield 23mp or so. Generally, the RT4WD versions don't take much more fuel since it runs in 2wd form all the time until wheel slip is detected. When that happens, the 4wd kicks in and those times should be quite brief.
Vince is correct in that weight reduces MPG. So, in the 4wd trim, it is usually off by 1mpg.
There's a hybrid CR-V around the corner and that should be fun!

Is that confirmed ? I thought the recent anouncements from Honda were:
1) Hybrid for small cars (Civic, Fit, ....)
2) Diesel for larger cars (SUV)

that would definitely make more sense
a hybrid suv is nothing more than a market buzzer - i highly doubt it would be more fuel efficient than a diesel

I don't know, but wouldn't it depend on how you classify "small" vs "large"?
In the US the CR-V is a "small" SUV (aka Cute Ute or Mini Ute).

Yes, I know ... but I don't think that the hybrid powertrain can compete with diesel on any size SUV.
Diesels are cool but in today's space, it doesn't have the buzz of a hybrid. Also, there are quite a few states that don't allow sales of new diesel vehicles...CA being one of them. Bummer.
Let's see what Honda does.
