I am looking to buy my first CRV and had a discussion with a dealer today in which he stated that the new CRV is turbo powered. Now I am stumped and wondering if I should just wait for 2007 as my main concern with the 2006 is the rumored lack of power. My cheap side wants to go for the 2006 as I am under the impression that I am getting a pretty good deal. I often have to tackle the Malahat (a steep windy highway) in bad weather and figure I need a little more power for accident avoidance purposes. Any comments or suggestions?

There is speculation all over the place on what the powerplant of the 07 is going to be. People seem to agree the most that it is around 170 or so. The 4 of the 05 / 06 has been enough for me, I have never reached a point where I felt like the little engine that could, however it definitely isn't something that is going to sink you into your seat. It kind of reminds me of a very powerful go-kart in a way. Pep when you need it, but easy to keep at speed. I am downgrading from a 6 cylinder 250 or so now, and while the CR-V can't tow a lot, it certainly is a great vehicle for driving. Plus it gets good gas milage on the 4.

It is highly unlikely the 07 CR-V will be a turbo, since that would put it too close to the new Acura RDX. There is also the rumor of a hybrid and/or diesel engine (US). My "speculation" is that it will be a normal 4-cylinder with 10 more hp for a total of 166hp. :)

Funny you say that - the dealer specifically told me that the 07 would be pretty much exactly like the Acura RDX....and that it would def. be a turbo. Hmmmm....what fun....

Dealers/car sales people are the last people I would trust for new car information. When I bought my '05 CR-V, I spent about 30 minutes explaining the new features to the salesman!

Good point...I have found the same thing? What is up with that anyway? :)

You won't hava any troble on the malahat with the crv. In bad weather just drive in 3rd gear. lots of power.
If the hippies can make it up in a VW microbus the crv can certainly handle it.

Dealers are STUPID and will lie to you to make a sale. I've always known more about the cars they are trying to sell me than they do.

There will be no turbo upon release, maybe in a few years....

Thanks for the Malahat tip - I had to laugh because in my teens I had my 69 VW Van and everybody would give me the finger - but I had the peddle to the meddle. Maybe that is why I am so paranoid about it now. Still in discussions with a number of dealers. None seem to be willing to go below sticker, but some are throwing "a lot" in. I am waiting for the deal...but it is hard to wait.

None below sticker. That's unbelievable. Well, that's the Island for you. I bought my V three years ago. Walked into the dealer and said I'll give you 3% above invoice. Walked out 40 minutes later with everything signed. This was in Ottawa. I think I was reading where some people are getting them at invoice now.

Invoice mean nothing. That's the figure manufacturers sell to companies who resell it to people who will pay for infornmation 'to save money'. Nothing to do with dealer cost.

ahh dunno bout that. We have a very close relationship with our honda dealer. We buy our cars straight from their stock/ordering book, which they give us to browse thru when we get our new cars. They purchase the vehicle at an 'invoice ' figure.
