I have had my 04 pilot for 2 weeks. if you don't fasten the seat belt, it will periodically ding at me at random intervals. i don't always fasten my seat belt on short trips to work and the store and such. does anyone know if and how this can be disabled? i've read the owners manual, and no solutions there.

i know that in ford products there is a procedure to stop that from happening. thanks.

I'm not sure, but I doubt that you can disable it because of the safety issue.

By the way, I would "HIGHLY" suggest to wear the seat belt even on short trips. A friend of mine was in an accident about 5 years ago while sitting in the back of a car without wearing the seat belt. He had a severe brain injury and was in coma, and died a month ago. Nobody should take a risk and there are many rackless drivers on the streets.

This annoying chime has won me over and now I always wear a seatbelt. I was pretty diehard about not wearing one before I got the Pilot. And I'm pretty stubborn, not easily changed. But I have to say it's probably for the best and I don't mind it that much.

Basically, a lot (or some) people don't like wearing a seat belt because they feel that their body is trapped in something. However, once you get used to it and there is no issue with comfort, you shouldn't even pay attention that you're wearing a seat belt.

at first I had a problem with comfort, until I found out that the seatbelt height could be adjusted.

oh, someone posted about an accident someone had and practically totalled the Pilot, but because of the seatbelts, just walked away without a scratch. I guess that sunk into my stubborn head as well. :P

^^^ Yep, I've heard quite a few stories like that. Seat belts really save lives.

FYI-The seatbelt connection on the side of the d/s seat should have a wire with a plug that connects to a wire from under mat/carpet. If you unplug that wire, you should get rid of the chime reminder and the light on the dash that indicates that the seatbelt is not connected.

Disclaimer: This info was supplied only to answer your question. For safety reasons I don't recommend that you do actually unplug that connection.

thanks for the info, and for everyone's concern with my safety. trust me, i do wear the seatbelt, and i believe in their power to save. i just don't need a reminder chime.

Pilot Critter - Well if you say you wear your seatbelts, then why are you so concerned about the reminder chime?

Hey... for those of you who have heard that chime... How long does it take to start? I drove to work today without wearing my seat belt... The whole 10 minute drive, I didn't hear the chime...

???I think the chime is a new feature on the '04's?

Not to hijack the thread but I rear ended the corner of a trailer at 70+mph who was turning into my lane. It literally split my 2000 CR-V in half to the firewall. I walked away without a scratch, bump or bruise and didn't even need to go to the hospital. I am a firm believer in seatbelts.

My CR-V wasn't so lucky - it sustained $8K worth of damage. Interestingly, my airbags didn't deploy, as the hit was between the sensors according to my dealer.

There isn't a chime on mine either. Only right in the beginning.
