The Insurance Institute For Highway Safety just tested the new 2006 Rav4, front and side crash test and it was rated as "Good" not Best Pick.
I guess this will be another issue when choosing between 2006 Rav4 and the new 2007 CRV.
Since safety is a big issue for my family, lets hope the new 2007 CRV does better, since Honda is big on safety.
Honda's safety commitment is one of the big reasons I will continued to purchase their cars.

The following is an article from cnn.com/autos:

Like the Camry, the Rav4 earned "Good" ratings for front and side crash protection.

Neither car earned a "Top Safety Pick" award from the Institute, however, because of "Marginal" ratings for whiplash protection in rear impacts.

The Insurance Institute's four possible ratings for the front, side and rear whiplash protection tests are "Good," "Acceptable," "Marginal," and "Poor."

What do you guys think?

The CRV didn't do as well in the rear testing either b/c of the seat design. Those IIHS guys like the "dynamic" head restraints.

Other than the rear impact (your most likely wreck), it is good news for the RAV4.

Interesting that the Rav 4 still lists side and side curtain airbags as an option. Honda offers them standard on even the Civic and Fit models, so you can be sure they will be standard on the new CR-V. Shame on Toyota for not following suite with Honda's 'Safety for Everyone'.

No joke... What a stupid way to try to save money by sacreficing safety
