Hi to everyone,
here in Italy the first spy shots of the new CRV have began a big discussion but most of the people are upset of this new model and I am one of them. Of course let's wait to see it....
First of all we go from the nice and awarded design of the nes Civic to this mix of Volvo rear and Lexus front.
A CRV without any personality! The front is very ugly, the back is Volvo. The one part I like is the side with that nice window cut.
I really do not know what Honda's designers are doing!!
In Italy specialized magazines have pictured the new 07 CRV with a picture of the Acura RDX. I would be really happy if it will be like that. The Acura is wonderful but I do not know why Honda does not bring it to Europe (See Toyota with Lexus).
Wi th this CRV we are going to loose more on more points on the RAV4... Look what is happening next year with the beautiful Mazda CX-7....
Guys, I see a quite front restalying behind the corner for this 07 CRV flop.....
Ciao

I tend to agree with you and others about the styling being too ugly or less SUVish on the '07. But I am pretty sure Honda has lessened the odds of it being a flop by doing many focus groups. For the most part (Ridgeline excluded) Honda usually makes designs that the general public either likes or can at least tolerate. I feel that Honda has done enough research to that it most likely will succeed. But you never know (Ridgeline included).

I think the Ridgeline flopped because Honda isn't a big name (or even really existent) in the truck world. Honda is going to be last on the list for people used to buying trucks from "the big three".

i think the Ridgeline is just too expensive for a newcomer.
i love it. if i'd import it the price here including all taxes would be at least double the purchase price in the US.

i am happy with the looks
the interior possibly having a giant center console with a shifter instead of what it had before, and the lack of a power upgrade are really really lame though
I will not be getting one.
i also dont like "muscular" trucky suvs when it comes to a city car
and im happy the new cr-v has headed this way
i think the only consideration is the strange side window cut and the weird double front grille
but then again - its a fresh new design - it wouldnt be so without strange unique elements

Yep.

???? The car isn't even out yet. How can it be a flop already? :? I'm sure they will still sell like crazy....

What's the URL of the RAV-4 equivalent of this site?

ALthough I am fairly new to SUV world, it seems by visual observation that the market choices focus between two extremes - square and trucklike or curved and carlike. It seems that more and more of them are "curving" - in their most current forms - CRV, Escape (upcoming), CX7, etc. It seems that although the supposed market for large SUV's is waning, people will probably be looking for more square designs. Toyota's RAV is offering quite a choice with power but the shape of the thing is kind of choppy looking to me - almost like the hood area was designed separate from the body and the rear as well - an odd fit per se; however, the size is great now and matches the CRV in that respect. I too think that honda should get rid of the smiley face on the 07 and give it a modern but rugged form perhaps a chrome safari bar or something to "butch it up" slightly of course for the masses. That volvo rear isn't that bad really. IMHO.

I can handle the grille but not that rear side window.
The low-rpm-cruise-on-the-highway, the high-power-yet-good-gas-mileage V6 and the third row seat make the RAV-4 my next choice. I may give the Accura a chance... styling is at least acceptable.
SWMBO rules a new car is 1 1/2 years off, so the RAV-4 choice may change.
Down side to RAV-4... side opening door, vulnerable spare, god-awful marketing strategy, insufferable sales force... but most importantly, NO HONDASUV WEBSITE!!!!!

Amen. That rear end stinks!
I really like the look of the new CR-V. The Rav4 v6 is a really nice powerplant, but I can't get by the look of the rear tire on the back..... not to my taste.
Here's hoping that the new CR-V has a decent increase in output from the new 4cyl, and that NVH is improved. If so, I'll most certainly buy one.

The Ridgeline flopped because it isn't a truck by US standards. It can't haul squat by weight, the mini size of the bed hurts and the weird sloping sides of the bed don't help either.

It's as capable as a compact or midsize pickup, at full-size pickup prices.
It's basically a match to a Tacoma or Colorado with a short-bed and crew cab, not to a real standard sized, V8 powered pickup.
Which is fine, but you can't sell it at V8 full-size prices, whether there's an H on the hood or not!
(Incidentally, this is killing compact and midsize pickup sales as well!)

I think I saw one post that said the new 2007 CR-V loses 3 inches of ground clearance. Is this true? All the talk is about the other specs but without ground clearance it really just turned the CR-V into a boxy sedan.

The unconfirmed rumor is that ground clearance will drop from 8" to 5.5". The '07 CR-V in the following photo appears to have more than 5.5" of clearance. Everyone is still waiting on the official specs. :?
