I saw 2 Californian license plate 2007 CRV in Vancouver today!
The front really looks ugly!,.... The back remind me of Honda Stream,... van, wagon style.
Overall,.... no SUV look. 2 G is still the best.

Not too sure. I was driving and stopping right behind it to take some pic. Then drive to the front to take another pic. As you can see,... the driver thinks I was stalking him!
The front looks like it's missing teeth!
This pic is the EX version. There's the LX version behind it but i didn't manage to get a shot. The front shot was taken kinda far away. I crop and compress the pictures to fit into the forum.
Pictures are not the clearest as I was driving and taken from bad angle.

Ground clearance looks to be in the 5-6" range, if those are 16" wheels.
I agree, I still like the 1st gen styling the best -- if it's an SUV, it should look like an SUV and not a station wagon with a lift-kit.
The front bumper is like that to pass the Euro pedestrian run-over test. The idea is that the hapless walker will go up over the hood and not under the vehicle. The hood is also designed to crush without the person hitting anything hard underneath (like the engine or battery).
I understand why they designed it the way they did -- I just don't like the result.

Not to enchanted with the smiley front either.

You know what,.... the more I look at it,... the more I think it's a mini van or domestic auto. I think lack of back spare tire makes 2007 V looks less rugged for SUV.
I called Carter Honda (Vancouver) and "AJAX" (Sales) told me they have 1 2007 CRV in the showroom and asked me to come in. So I went over and he sat me down and said it should be in their parking lot. After he talked to his manager, he said it'll be in in 2-3 months!
What a liar!
Anyway,.... i think 3rd G RAV4 will be better choice if I were given a choice!

I really like the side view with the flaring fenders. The part that is my least favorite is the side rear window area. It seems that it would cause blind spots. The rear is now like everything else out there - cept the taillights. The chrome strip and overall look seem to upscale it more (to me).

From those pics the front end looks funky, especially the first pic. The back taillights look exactly like a Volvo now, not just similar, but exactly. I will be very interested to see one in person now. For those of you in the market for a new CR-V, wait until you see and drive the '07 in person before you decide on an '06. Many a person made assumptions five years ago right before the '02s came out that they later regretted.

I like it. Looks bigger and more modern. Front looks wierd but will get used to it like the 2002 CRV when it came out.
It definitely will finetune the 02-06 CRV (expected)
I have already gone ahead and placed the 1st order through the Greek Honda importer, but will have to wait until October for delivery. Looks like USA will have sooner delivery.

That front end does look strange, for the rest it looks good and the ground clearance seems to be the same as on my gen-2 V.

I agree about the taillights looking just like a Volvo....that was the same thought I had.
On the blind spot...I tried looking back in my 2nd gen. To see cars and to back up, you look in the lower portion of the back window, not the upper part. So I don't think it will be a blind spot issue...though you have to drive it to find out for sure. That said, I don't care for the look of that rear downward swooping window.
Back looks ok, though I always liked the tire on the door.
Front....hmmmmm, first impression is ..... UGLY. But let's see how it looks in person....pictures can be deceiving sometimes.

So it's official that the spare is off the back, probably thanks to all of you "clean shave" fanatics complaining about it all these years. Grrrrrrr. Let's see how the rear cargo space stacks up now. And will we have to deal with a slim donut spare as standard equipment???
Well, at least the end result doesn't look any worse than the second-gen.
The outside styling of the shell does nothing for me, but let's see if the "soul" of the vehicle will keep me interested. Will it be spacious, will it feature quirky "why didn't I think of that?" surprises in the interior? Will the new shape yield a couple more MPG on the highway? Or did this redesign possibly gain weight?
Still so many questions to be answered!

I have to admit I am less than thrilled, but it's not that bad. At least we got the grille and not that blank "upper lip" look. I think the looks could be improved by painting the chrome strips in the lower grille flat black, so the disappear. Right now it sticks out like a sore thumb, It's not any uglier than the Pilot. The acura version looks great, but way out of my price range, plus it's turbocharged, a longevity no-no. I think we will get used to it. Besides, what are we going to do? Buy one of the American SUV's? I'd rather have an ugly Honda than a good looking Ford. American cars have always fell apart on me or failed catastrophically after 100K miles. I'm done with them. Detroit might as well close down now. Thet have spent way too much R&D on big cars. This is where it's at for the future.

1. fantastic job and a lot of bravery on stalking that car and taking pics!
2. i think it is quite a waste to keep mulling likes and dislikes of looks. wise men said: LOOKS ARE DECEIVING. when i bought my 02 V, i did not give a frogs donk about looks. i gave a lot, though, to quality, comfort, dependebility, cargo, features, price. lots time spent researching, singling out best bets (V vs RAV4 finally), with V winning due to features and price.
and it's been real good to me through all those 95000 miles and all kinds of crappy roads and me busting her for the 1st year.
3. so, taking into consideration things that do matter - not just looks - what exactly is that we have? probably same I-VTEC engine; probably same RTAWD; probably same cargo area, same folding seats, same leg/shoulder/head room. probably same mpg. as far as i can tell from previous posts, engine was underpowered on gen1, gen2, and stayed the same way. 10 more hp just does not cut the bill, that car needs at least 30 to 40 more. i, also, have no doubt that the new price tag would be around 26 - 30K.
when they came up with 2nd gen, it was almost complete redesign. larger, more powerful, more comfortable, still very effordable. what's new in new gen? hybrid looks, like as if copycatted from several different cars? where's so much asked for V6? innovative transmission? or suspension? while competition is boasting more and more powerful engines and features packed vehicles? are we looking at next 5 yrs of sameness with more headlights added? when even ford escape starts looking more attractive?

I just hope they make it quieter. We're loyal CR-V fans, having a 1st generation CR-V and now a 2nd generation, each bought the year they came out. But boy would I love it if they would improve the sound-proofing - four years later and you can barely hear yourself think in ours on the highway. That's one of the reasons we were considering a Toyota for our next SUV, but I really want to see what this one is like...

Well if the price jumps to 26K then I'm out. I'm hoping for a base price around 20K like the current one, that's all I can barely afford. If it jumps in price that much, I'll probably go with a Kia Sportage. I know it's not a Honda, but $6000 more would make it a poor value. I think Honda will keep the price similar, although the car does appear more upscale. They will add to price by killing us with options. I'll just order a stripped down model if they do that.

Square off the rear window, and at least paint the hideous front lower grill, and you have a decent looking modern SUV.

My take exactly. When I first saw the early spy pics with the RDX in front of it, I wanted one. That full size rear window and the chrome trim looked great to me. I might have lived with the smaller cargo area in order to have a new model. The snaggletooth nose does not do much for me at all other than turn my stomach. That rear window is just hideous though - hence the 06 SE in the garage. I figured I'd get one before they stopped making them.
Others have mentioned that the 06 deals might be coming but I'm not so sure. There are likely a lot of G2 CRV owners who were waiting to get a new one but will snap up the existing 2006 models before they can't get them any more.

Except for getting used to the front end, for those of us used to older Gens, the new buyers will like this CRV. Unless something happens to fuel prices, USA buyers are gonna long for 4cyls. In Tyler they can't keep 4cyl camrys and accords in stock, but they are discounting v6s.

The good thing I've noticed in the Gen1vsGen2 sparring is that whoever owns it, likes it. That says much.
I've noticed in Robert's Gen 1 some things that should've made into Gen2 (flat fold seating, storage in the rear door, exterior styling is more truck-like, to name a few.) Some improvements in Gen2 I like better (05 safety features, improved AWD, larger picnic table!, more rear seat room, etc.)
So, it is interesting to see what Honda adds and leaves out in each Gen. I wonder, other than the exterior pics, do we know what is inside the Gen 3?

Well, I have a 2001 that I bought used in 2004... I really didn't like the styling on it until after G2 arrived. Now that the G3 is out, the G2 is looking much better to me. What is it about Honda designs... Every time a new one arrives, the last one is starting to look very good. True, the mid-gen touchups usually improve small elements that look out of place, but the overall designs always seem to be baed about 2-3 years in the future. Given the much improved engine and tranny, and the increased cargo volume, the gen 2 would be nice, but I find the Gen1 to have a much more functional (if less stylish) interior.
Compare this to GM and Ford, whose designs seem to be very in-style the moment they arrive, but appear quite dated a mere two years into a much longer generational life.
With only 51K miles on my '01, no mechanical issues, and still glossy paint, it's har to justify replacing it with something new for my present 6-7K miles/year (the wifey's Mazda5 does all our family tripping)

Its not just Honda showing this trend. Take a look at all Bangle-bungled BMW designs of late! Take a look at the design direction of Subaru with THAT front end! Even Audi with THAT front end grille. Just to name a few. So it ain't just Honda.

One of my major beefs with Honda (I currently own my fourth and fifth) is that there is so little design continuity between diffent models and from one generation to the next. I'm no fan of recent BMW design but at least there is a strong family resemblence. Honda is always bouncing around with some Hondas looking more like Acuras than other Hondas. The gen2 CRV had some similarity with the S2000 with how the center of the hood dropped down and the crease at this location ties into the grille/headlights. This new CRV is just bizzare and doesn't seem to fit (no pun intended) into the Honda design language. (Hopefully this isn't a new design language!) The new Stream is much better; its side windows are nicer and the front jives with the new civic.

Overall,.... no SUV look. 2 G is still the best.
Man, I still like the 1st and 2nd gens. Thanks for sharing.

I personally don't care for the '07 CRV, based upon it's looks. I thought I was gonna be jealous and want a new one. But, I now appreciate my '03 more! The new one will have soccer mom's lining up to buy it. Aggh.
