Here are some pictures of a worked CRV with vents on the side of the engine bay.

Side Vents Vs Bonnet Scoops
Side Vents
Advantages - Slightly increase airflow through the engine bay.
Disadvantages - Harder to install than Bonnet Scoops.
Bonnet Scoops
Advantages - Increase airflow throught the engine bay, easy to install.
Disadvantages - Increase rainwater, insects etc into the top of the engine bay.
Others?

Bonnet vent was dead easy to install and to be honest there wasn't that much 'crap' getting into the engine bay, certainly no more than gets in through the front of the bonnet :)

You want gravy with that?!
You know, the differnce in power for the fraction of a part of a degree that that lot will do on even a worked engine bay will be outweighed by the weight of the things themselves.
If you are doing cos it looks cool and all that, then fine, but don't think for one moment that there will be some performance benefit...

I'll bet those side vents don't actually increase the air flow through the engine compartment. We'd have to see the engine compartment to know for sure, but unless there are also modifications to the fender lining and engine compartment framework those are just for looks.

I did notice a defnite increase in throttle response on motorways with the bonnet vent fitted - that's the only place it had any effect though as i never did get around to connecting it directly to the filter.

AKA: My butt dyno said...
With due respect Patrick, I'll stick to my point of view. Butt-dynos have a habit of confirming what the brain is hoping for.

Aye but what a Dyno can't measure is subjective readings - it's not always about maths and engineering you know. Just because there is no power increase doesn't mean you can't have a feeling of increased response at the sharp end. To be honest man is still a far more sensitive instrument than most of the instruments he makes ;)

Then it's a subjective measure, not an objective one, and is therefore not definitive.

When you're measuring how a car feels to drive, a lot of the time it IS subjective :) That's going to remain the case until machines learn how to feel and how to drive cars and people are out of the equation.
You can have two cars with the same power output, the same engine but one may feel like it has faster throttle response even though there is no difference in power or overall speed.
Any definitive measurement based on mathmatics is only as good as the forumla or measurements which provided the data, the subsequent deduction of that measurement provides the supposed definitive answer - it's all subjective bollocks and open to interpretation.
Someone call a statistician!! They can always interpret figures correctly :)

Especially if one is SILVER. They're the fastest. lol

And if you want mega fast, make sure you remove that rear spoiler as the 85kg downforce restricts the top end by at least 6.23 mph :D
