225/70/R15 Michelin Cross Terrain SUV tires have to be the best performance modification I have done to my truck. I am interested in what other members have done to improve the engine performance (seems like there isn't much you can do with 4 cylinders).

I got the short air intake. I really can't tell much of a difference though, positive or negative. I do think that MAYBE its a bit better at the top end, but I rarely go there.

Wow! I think we need to get a Houston-area meet going, 'cause I think an N2O-enhanced CR-V would be fun to see. 8)

Let me know when and where. Pull the trigger. I'll be there.

I have to check out Skav's truck. A bit disappointed he went back to 215 tires - I dug the looks of the larger set he had installed.

skavatar,

that direct air flow on your grill.... would water get inside the airbox due to the mod?

02 CRV EX 5-spd

Drop-in K&N (noticebly better throttle response; don't forget to reboot your ECU)
Bosch Platinum +4 (much smoother burn than OE Denso Iridiums)
Michelin Harmony 215/70-15 (Excellent wet & snow performance; progressive dry breakway when pushed hard; no speedo error or torque loss w/5 spd trans)
Mobil-1 5W/30 (quiets those noisy valves and better/safer performance when red-line shifting the 5 spd)
Passport 8500 (speed traps suck!)

Hand clocked an 8.0 sec 0-60 on a cool dry day. Can hard chirp the bigger tires in 2nd and 3rd gear at speed. Not exactly a race car, but can smoke most big fat porker SUV, and sissy slushbox Subarus....I admit to longing for a WRX STi though. If Honda only made a car like that.....S2000 is nice, but not on the rainy, snowy, sleety, frost heaved roads of the Northeast.

Remove one of the battery cables, key on the ignition switch and step on the brake for a minute to drain anything stored in capacitors. When you reconnect the battery and drive, the ECU should sense the better airflow from the MAP sensor and hopefully add a tiny bit more fuel pressure for more power.....not much though. My guess is about 5-6 hp from this mod. The factory intake on the V is very efficient already.

Taken from a Honda accessory installation publication (No: All 26144) for ECM/PCM idle learn procedure

Make sure you have the anit-theft code for the radio and radio presets
Disconnect the negative from the battery (at least 5 mins)
Reconnect negative cable to battery
Make sure all electrical items are turned off
Start engine. Hold engine speed at 3,000 rpm with no load (in Park or Neutral) until radiator fan comes on
Let engine idle for 5 minutes wjth throttle fully closed and with all electrical items off

Note: If radiator fan comes on during this step, the time when it is operating must not be included in the 5 minutes.

skavatar,

no, the intake tube has a small hole at the bottom for water to exit. the direct air flow modification is similar to the honeycomb grille.
