My fello Ontarians,

If you could divide Ontario into 2 parts with a staight line running east to west such that each part had roughly the same land area, what cities/towns would that line pass through or closest to?

I got the idea for this poll from a previous post that got a little OT talking about north and south Ontario and the dividing line as defined by peoples perceptions and such.

I've set the poll to run for 30 days, then I'll post a map I drew a while back while trying to solve an arguement between myself and a buddy regarding the very same question.

After answering the poll based only on geography (land area) only, it would be interesting to hear where you think Southern Ontario ends and Northern Ontario begins and especially why you think so.

Ok, the poll's run it's course...

A long time ago a buddy and I argued the point. He said Barrie and I said the Soo. I decided to overlay a grid over a map of Ontario and simply divide it in half, colouring the blocks one at a time alternating from the south and north until south met north. At that point there would be as many south colored blocks as north colored blocks. Turns out they met in the middle of a row so I split that row in half.

We were both wrong...

69 purple (north) and 67 yellow (south) blocks...

I lived in London ON for 25 years. While there, I figured that for Torontonians the world is flat. predicted the edge was about Kitchener...an Torontonians couldn't see anything beyond there. ;)

Its true.....a lot of them do not travel past the populated areas...

I know people from Mississauga who have even been to Guelph or Barrie, and they live here for a good part of their life.
