Whats the widest tire I can Put on a 2003 Hr-V
Currently have 195/70/15. Dunlops on them.
Was looking at a pair of Sumiotos 225/60/15 waht you think.? Any rubbing with this size. Or what the best size for an aggressive look and handling.

Morning :)
I've had this "argument" elsewhere on this forum, albeit not specifically relating to the HRV.
Couple of things you should consider;
Ride quality - lower profile tyres will give a harsher ride, tramlining under brakes etc. If you want 20" rims you'll need to have "condoms on steel" to get them to fit. Every catseye or stone on the road will feel like driving over a pothole - any loose fillings will soon manifest themselves as problems when they fall into your lap =8*)
Related suspension components - extra wear and tear will be placed on these if you start going up to the 19s and 20 inch stuff. I'd have thought you could get away with 16, 17 and 18" without too much problem. Also bear in mind that if you bounce off a kerb with that low a profile tyre, it will be your wheel that bears the brunt of the impact and not the tyre - can be costly if you make a habit of it.
However it does look way cool :-)
Have a look here http://www.rochfordtyres.co.uk/TyreCalc.asp or http://www.rochfordtyres.co.uk/product.asp?P_ID=188&V_ID=1273&strPageHistory=search&strKeywords=5x114&numPageStartPosition=4&strSearchCriteria=any&PT_ID=all
The above gives some examples.
I reckon you'd get up to;
245 * 30 * 20"
235 * 35 * 19"
225 * 40 * 18"
215 * 50 * 17"
205 * 60 * 16"
You need to pay attention to keep the overall rolling radius the same as the original tyres to avoid the need to recalibrate your speedo. If you use the online calculators you can work out what size and profile will keep that radius near enough the same. That way when you're seeing 70mph, you're actualy doing 70mph and not 65 or 81 ;)
As for wheel width, well you can't go too much wider on the inside but you might be able to widen the track with spacers and then use wheel arch extensions to keep things legal. How wide can you go, don't know for sure but the above is a start.
Hope that's a start.
Cheers,
Patrick
the largest tyre you can install would be 215/70R15, this would rub only a little when the steering wheel has been turned to a full lock. if to go to extremes - many users have installed large and wide tires, for example user leonard has 235/35R19 in his 3D HR-V. dig the forum, there's a lot of information here related to tyres sizes.

I have 235ers, but it is on 17 inch. ( 235 - 45 - 17. )
And I think you meant on a 15 inch, that do I not know.
But have you been thinking of spacers ( disc's ) ??
I have spacers arround from 1,5 cm
that wil give also a 'aggressive look' :wink: :D
( Check my pictures )
it will also eat wheel bearings for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

From the local Motor Vehicle Registry. Some good diagrams showing and explaining wheel offset.
