I would like to ask if anybody here have installed any DVD receivers with either 7 or 6 1/2 inch motorized LCD monitors in the center dash of the Pilot? I want to replace my radio head unit with the DVD head unit and Crutchfield.com have a compatibility feature (What fits my car? link) in their site that shows what fits in the Pilot.

They are showing about ten different models are compatible. These are the brands they have; Kenwood, Pioneer, Clarion, Panasonic, Blaupunkt and Alpine. Crutchfield also sells a face trim kit for the Pilot.

I also would like to know which of these brands are compatible with the steering wheel volume control.

TIA

Basically if you can find a good qualified car audio installer, they can make anything work/fit! Those head units that has the motorized LCD Screens such as the Alpine series are usually regular DIN size (normal size of head units)... There should be no need to worry about one fitting the Pilot's dash... You can purchase mounting kits for it have a perfect fit.

Now as far as having the unit compatible with the steering wheel controls... I was looking into that too when I was going to transfer my MP3 Pioneer head unit from my CRV to my Pilot... My installer was saying that there is nothing out there yet that is included with head units to have it integrated with our controls... There is however an adapter that they can install to have it work... but for us Canadians, it can cost about $150 CND to retrofit...

Good luck!

I'm thinking about getting a DVD player with a pop-up screen for my Pilot too. However, I have a RES so it would be a waste to replace the factory head unit since I like the way how the control works. The only option for me is to replace the RES DVD player with the aftermarket DVD player. One concern I have is that the popped-up LCD screen will block the climate control buttons.

I personally like Kenwood KVT-911DVD. It has a built-in TV tuner, video out for another LCD display, two sets of audio/video inputs. One of our members has it in his Element and I saw it at Azusa OHV last month.

For the steering wheel control, please check out this site. (http://www.go2pac.com/products/swi.htm) The control made by PAC has to be trained the function of IR remote of the aftermarket DVD player/receiver, so it will work with any player/receivr as long as they have IR remote. This control is supposedly work with any Honda. Crutchfield sells SWI-X control for $69.99.

Please keep us posted (along with pictures) if you decide to do it. DIY instructions will be great.

You could replace your radio head unit, if you want, so the screen won't cover the climate controls. Also you don't have to take out your RES. That way, you could watch a different movie in the front screen and a different one in the rear monitor. Replacing your RES DVD player in your dash could be a nightmare. That's why I decided to place mine up high on the dash instead of the cubby hole below my climate controls. I just might put a 6 disc CD player in that cubby hole later.

Thanks for your tips. I'm trying to decide right now what brand to get because I wanted to get the model compatible with a NAV system, when I get the NAV later on. I prefer the Panasonic system because that's the brand Honda is using on the RES and surveys says that it had the best customer satisfaction. I'll probably post some pics next month after it's installed.

I saw this setup that I liked in somebody's CR-V, see pic below:

I have been pricing out the new Pioneer AVIC-N1. Has anyone else installed this in their Pilot? Looks like it's gonna cost me about $2300 installed with all the kits necessary as well as the voice module (tells you which way to turn), Accessory module for external AV (have a 10" portable Samsung that I want to plug into it so that I can take advantage of the 2 zones.) and the unit that allows the factory steering remote to run it (will post the exact make and model after install). I am purchasing tomorrow but can't get it installed til 1.5 weeks from now. If anyone has already put it in I would love to see some pics as well as how you like it. I am gonna get it either way since it's the best bang for the buck cuz it's all-in-one.

I too am interested in replacing the OEM radio with an aftermarket DVD player and screen set. This setup requires the use of both DIN mounts.

Could anyone tell me what mount kits is out there to help me mount 2 DIN units.

My 06 Pilot is going to the shop sometime this week for the audio install. My old 7" monitor will flush mounted on the dash where the current radio sits. My dvd unit will sit ini the pocket below the climate controls. I prefered this over the flip out screens because it gives it a more "stock" look.

Also planning on mounting up 2 7" headrest monitors, change the speakers all around, subs and amp. Ill keep u all posted on the progress.
