Hi,

I am looking at trading in my 04 Grand Cherokee (leasing now) and buying a 2003-2004 Pilot. I will probably get one without the navi system beacsue I dont really need it but it would be a nice if I could install it later if I wanted to.

I could buy the Jeep Navi system for 700-800 on eBay and was wondering if the same thign can be done with the Pilot. It is simple install on the Jeep.

So, can the Navi system be added to a Pilot EX that does not have one?

Thanks,

Mark

The dealers, and Honda, will all tell you "No, it's a factory install only. Too complicated to do after the fact." This is likely true as the Pilot's unit also ties into the speed sensors and other vehicle systems. However, there are lots of other after market add-on Nav units available.

I bought a brand new 2004 pilot last year and before I bought it I did alot of research on doing the same thing as you. An after market in dash nav -system will cost you alot more in the long run, and about putting the pilot nav in afterwards will cost you a bundle in instillation. If you don't spend the $1500 now you will end up paying $2000-3500 later.

Not true.....Pioneer has in-dash NAV/AM-FM/CD units starting at $1500 from authorized dealers (AVIC-D1). If go with an online wholesaler or on Ebay, it can be even cheaper. Aftermarket units will offer you much more flexibility and upgrade paths vs. the OEM NAV and will give more features (XM NAVTraffic, 3D map display, voice guidance, vehicle dynamics and more). Typically, the sound quality will improve as well since most of these units are designed to replace your factory radio. Steering controls can also be integrated with the proper adapter.

If you want to add the OEM NAV unit later, it can be a little pricey depending on where you get the parts from. Occassionaly, there are Ebay sellers who have all the parts you need (a custom harness will need to be made as the non-NAV EX models lack the internal wire harness). The most cost-effective way is to go aftermarket.

Don't forget to include the cost of buying the updated map CD/DVDs over the life of the unit.
