Looks good, but do you really feel like it adds any power? I've had mine over a year now and I still can't tell.

Finally someone who spent the $$ and realizes you don't get any extra power.

Even if it was there, it's doubtful that anyone would notice without instrumentation. A long time ago, I read an article that stated that the average person wouldn't notice if they had a faster computer unless performance was increased by at least 20% or so. If that statement holds true for the CR-V, the intake would have to knock off a couple of seconds off the 0-60 time or 3-4 seconds from a 1/4-mi time before it's noticed by the "butt dyno." No intake is going to promise that kind of performance leap.

Noise = power in the mind

Yes, in my experience, a mod must provide an increase of about 0.6 to 0.7 seconds to be physically perceived by the driver. However, in a quarter mile drag race, a fraction of a length can mean the difference between winning and losing, and 0.1 seconds equals one length.

it has better throttle response, not much perceivable uhmp...its really not even noisier than the stock intake. it just makes a weird noise when you turn the engine off. i plan to go back out to the track pretty soon to test out the times.

I started out wanting to get one of these but the general opinion was that it doesn't do anything. I'm not into wasting money so I changed my mind.

THOES AIR FILTERS WORK. I HAD ONE ON MY VTEC CIVIC COUPE. I TOOK IT OFF AND AND PUT BACK THE ORIGINAL. I IT FELT SLUGGISH. EVEN MY WIFE NOTICED. SHE ASKED ME WHEN LAST I TOOK THE CAR FOR SERVICING BECAUSE IT FELT DEAD. I TOLD HER I TOOK OFF THE COLD AIR KIT B/C I THOUGHT IT WAS TOO NOISY HER. I NEARLY SLEPT ON THE COUCH THAT NIGHT. TO EARN BED RIGHTS I HAD TO RE INSTALL IT THAT NIGHT

THE REASON Y THEY ARE NOT ON PRODUCTION CARS IS THAT THEY TEND TO BE ON THE NOISY SIDE.

Gotta question...OK so the cold air intake gives minimum if any performance gains but has anyone notice a difference in gas mileage?

It may have better throttle response but after having it this long I wouldn't be able to tell. Also, it is noisier, and now that I have the Yokohama Avid Touring tires, I can actually hear the intake. I don't like the nasty sound it has at idle.

Yea it does have a kinda wierd whistling soumd at idle but i can't hear it over the killer sound of my radio. i really have no idea about mileage cause the day i got mine, the day the stock intake came off.

I have a Injen Base RSX intake in my Gen 2 V. I've installed mine AFTER I got my Yokohama YK420 tires on. The noise at idle and low rev is the same as stock. Only when I run the engine into high RPM you can hear the intake growl.
It does feel more responsive once it in the higher rpm's. Hopefully I can do a run with my rev/speed meter today to check the "new" horsepower. It's supposed to rain later today and I'm at work now, so I'm not sure if I'll make it before the rain.
It does make a scratchy/gorgely noise when shutting off the engine that i didn't hear with the stock intake, but that may very well be due to the larger diameter of the Injen pipe and the Injen being metal versus stock being plastick.

You can get better gas mileage with a cotton guaze filter only if you are the type of person who brings their rpms up past 4000rpm to redline on a daily basis. Granny drivers won't notice any difference.

that's me alright, guilty. i rev it up a lot, in the city or on the highway, doesn't matter. i've checked my gas mileage this past week. got almost 300 miles on just under 12 gallons, came out to about 24 mpg. then i got about 230 miles on just under 10 gallons, about 23 mpg. i usually get 22 mpg on the stock airbox w/ drop-in K&N filter. on highway i usually average 78-80 mph. not afraid to hit 95-100mph to pass "granny drivers." :)
can't get much acceleration past 100mph, i think b/c of the speed limiter on the ecu....
MikeN

Limiter should not kick in until ~115 mph.
Skavatar

its not that it won't accelerate, but acceleration is slower after about 100mph. the most i've gotten was about 109mph

You will know when you hit the speed limiter. There is no mistaking it.
Do you have any more drag strip results for us?

Do you think any cold air intake for the non type-s or base rsx would fit the V.
I want one but I dont want to spend big bucks for it.
Skavatar

not sure if it'll fit. the engine design is the same, so a SRI would fit. the typhoon for the CR-V and RSX-base is the same model. but the engine bays of the RSX is a little more cramped than the CR-V.

im gonna buy one for the rsx and try it. if it doesnt work i can just return or exchange it. ive been comparing pictures for like 2 days now and I really think it should work with no problems.

Thats awsome. Thanks man. I went and ordered a vibrant intake for the rsxbecause they are quite a bit cheaper in price ($155cdn). Im super excited to put it on. Cant wait.
Thanks

How about some 0-60 times with a stopwatch, or maybe dragstrip ET, to see if there is any difference?
Paul_arbouw
04-12-2004, 07:42 PM
My Apexi Rev/Speed meter will do 0-60 times, but obviously it won't do the before anymore, because i'm not putting the stock airbox on again! :D
The weather right now is not very condusive to drag racing either since it's raining all week, but the moment I have an opportunity I'll do a 0-60 run.

Can you do quarter mile times too? The dude with the shark avatar does low 17s I believe, but his is automatic.
